How do I test the coaxial output of CD

I need to test whether the coaxial output of my CD player is working, can I do this with a regular multimeter?

you could hook it up to a DAC if you have one around

otherwise i'm not sure what to measure from a multimeter

Dodgy DAC is the issue, but sent signal to surround amp and problem is with DAC
