A long time ago Mike did the full works on my x-Can v2 and it sounded great. Being a headphone nut I have far too many headphones and have in the past couple of years tried various HiFiMan models like the Sundara, Ananda, He6 and Arya. I started to wonder just before I started trying these headphones out whether I could do better than the X-Can amp and did a bit of research and decided to buy The Graham Slee amp mentioned in the subject line. For quite a while I felt I was hearing a bit more than I was hearing with the X-Can. However, using the various HiFiMan models I came to think there was something not that great going on. Music just didn't seem to be that interesting sometimes.
A couple of nights ago I dusted off the X-Can and listened. Subtle but worthwhile improvements over the G Slee were heard. Suddenly the music had more in the way of dynamics and sounds that were being masked a little by the G Slee were audible. I think I had fooled myself for some time into thinking I was hearing something better without even making a comparison. A few recordings that seemed to have sibilance don't have it with the X-Can. What a fool I was not to make a comparison before.
Anyway, this post is really to once again thank Mike for his brilliant work on my X-can v2 all those years ago. The amp is a force to be reckoned with after Mike's upgrades!
