Hi
Just bought a nuvista preamp, but its going to be a while until I can get my hands on it. Does anyone know what make of valve is inside it? Also, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is any audible difference between the makes of 6CW4 valves that are still available? I've seen valves by RCA, G.E, Sylvania and even Phillips. I did read somewhere that there is a theory that all nuvistor valves were made by RCA but they had a trade agreement with other brands to sell them under their respective names. Has anyone had a chance to test different makes?
Cheers

Hi Marco, Sorry for the delay in replying I have been busy sleeping. Stock Valves are JAN Philips 6112 frank.pocnet.net/sheets/009/6/6112.pdfMy preferred choice of valve is the Sylvania 6948 (a ruggedised / military grade version of the 6112) frank.pocnet.net/sheets/084/6/6948.pdfThe 6948 is the dog's bollocks. Hope that answered your question Have a look at the specs, the Sylvania 6948 is the (by far) better valve for the job Mike.

Mike,
thanks for the reply. Sorry... posted this in the wrong section. I'm talking about the nuvista pre-amp, not the x-pre! I don't think the valves that you have mentioned can be used in the nuvista.
Have you had any feedback on relative quality of the different makes of nuvistor valves?
cheers
