I have an eBay purchased V1 X-Can, I presume it is as original, unmodded. I listen to mainly vinyl and recently upgraded my cartridge This has highlighted that my X Can may need some TLC as the improved sonic performance is very evident via my speakers but not so much via my headphones (Senn HD477) the vocals particularly are slightly distorted and lack clarity Perhaps I should try a new set of valves as a starting point? I am not keen to replace caps etc as my soldering skills are not great. Any advice would be appreciated, I can’t see a facility on this board to upload photos, please let me know & I can post some TIA happylarry

I started with a full upgrade to the X-10 v3 with almost zero soldering experience. And I liked the result so much that since then I have been soldering whatever I can ... Mike was very convinced with his upgrade kit (valves + capacitors + resistor), the sound was fantastic. So I wouldn't stop at the simple valve replacement.

Don’t let not having no experience hold you back. Mike can do it for you, if you want.
