MF X-P200 recap

With Mike’s helper support, I performed the first recap of my life: the X-10 v3 upgrade.

What can I say: both the action and the victory are swept away.



So I also looked into the X-P200 power amplifier.



Instead of the 4 Jamicon 10,000 uF 63V, Mundorf Mlytic comes with 10,000 uF 63V



Instead of the Jamicon 220uF 16V, a piece of AN Kaisei 220uF 16V arrives



Instead of 5 NP 10uF 63V, I "designed" 10uF 100Vdc Elna RBD bipolar



Instead of 2 pieces of Jamicon 100 uF 35V, 100uF 35V Elna Cerafine arrives



2 Jamicon 470 uF 35V instead of 470uF 35v Elna Cerafine arrives


Instead of 2 pieces of Jamicon Non polar 100 uF 16V, Nichicon ES type 100uF 16V arrives



And so far I have not been able to obtain these:

2 pieces of Jamicon 1uF 63V



As far as I know, Panasonic has 1uF 100V or more Volt capacitors.




Being an absolute beginner in the field, I discovered or could identify these “replaceable” parts.



Yet the pcb is also full of orange "capacitors" (for example, between fuses).  What they should be replaced with, or how I can identify their "performance," "capacity," at all?



Plus there are even opamps.



I am particularly interested in the two JRC5532. With them, I plan to make it interchangeable with a DIP8 enclosure, and Burson or other delicacies can go into it.



These are long-term plans. The capacitors are coming soon (except for 1uF because I haven’t been able to get them yet).

Instead of the 1uF electrolytic capacitors you could fit 1uF film caps...... these are the ones you need: WIMA 1uF / 63V

As a quick fix I would replace the JE5532 (NE5532) with an OPA2604 sir......... that's a good starting place.

I'm looking for non-Chinese Burr Brown OPA 2604s, but the web, and ebay aren't too rich on offer either.

In the meantime, I watched that the current NE5532s are soldered in, so I really need to solder a dip8 socket in place and put in the new opamps.

Well, it also turned out that it has the same transformer as the X-150. At least according to the sticker.

I couldn't take it anymore today. Even though I only came home from vacation yesterday, today I had to bother with a little soldering......

Following Mike’s advice, the opamps were also removed and replaced by Burr Brown OPA2604s.



Since all the capacitors + opamps in the first post were also replaced, so I can only describe the total effect after the first listening:

much, much more "musical." It’s rude because I’ve loved my system, its sound, the way the Musical Fidelity components played together so far. But this very first phase in the replacement of capacitors has been polished again.

There are still film capacitors left.

The picture will be colorful as Audyn, Mundorf and Panasonic also arrive.

My experience while listening to warm-up music for a few hours: I LOVE it! Bass treatment is much more controlled. And the representation of space! I know, trite words, but wider, deeper, more articulated. I can only describe it in words like that if I don’t want to pour more and more violently....

In the meantime, I wondered if I could even put in a Mundorf Evo Oil 1uF 450V for the example instead of the 1uF 63V I hadn’t replaced before?

I'm asking because of the polarity. Because the current 1uF 63V polar version.

Although, on second thought, I ordered the Panasonic, Mundorf and Audyn capacitors instead of the current red / orange "film" capacitors. Such is when someone is enthusiastic but amateur. Because I have no idea if they have any effect on "sound."

Gentlemen,

I can say that the second phase was also successful. In this round, the film capacitors have been replaced, some by Mundorf and some by Panasonic for pieces of appropriate value. I really don’t have left to look at the development as “finished” anymore. (then I'll start over anyway ...)

There are still 2-2 capacitor replacements left, and I thought I'd replace that "largest" physical size resistor as well. In principle, a 4.7 Ohm piece based on the color code. He will be replaced by Mills and a Kiwama resistor for the sake of the game. I wonder how these changes + and then another new binding post will add to what has been done so far.
Because I could summarize the result briefly this way: it is worth developing for such a sound!

I’ve loved the voice of Musical Fidelity so far ... but now! It's like our Love. We see her beautiful, every day. She enchants us in order. But on the day of the wedding, even She shines in a different splendor.

Previously, this amp also had a pair of Synergistic Research Orange fuse. I loved it a lot, but then I sold them because I headed more in this recap direction. The fuse was awful good. This, in turn, is much more complex. The result was noticeable in both. While in the case of the fuse I was more amazed at things, I grin a lot more now. And I realize I can’t turn off my music: I just have to listen to this one more ... endless.

What I am totally unsure of (obviously in the absence of knowledge) is how I can determine which is the coupling and which is the decoupling capacitor in the circuit. I mean, which capacitor performs such a task is obviously the same as the capacitor.
