Hi Mike,,
I came across your site after searching the net for Mf repairs.... I must what an excellent and informative forum. I have no knowledge of electronics but what I have read so far has helped me understand quite a bit about the machine and it’s internals.....
I have purchased an MF xcan v1 from ebay back in Sept of this year. The seller said he hadn’t used it for the last 10 yrs (packed away in his attic). After connecting the amp I found the following problems:
1 - When I first received it I found that the headphone jack had a poor sound when I connected my headphone through it. If I jiggled it, the sound would come through nice and clear. If I release the jack it go back to be being a poor distant tinny sound. My headphone is working perfectly fine and I have tested with three other models - all produce the same problem. Which means that the headphone socket in the Mf is the problem. I have ordered a new replacement jalco headphone socket to fix this.
2 - the power connector socket (excuse my poor terminology) seems to disconnect the power from the Mf whenever there is a slight movement. This causes the led light to turn off followed by a gradual loss of sound. I have checked the connector visually and there appears to be no problems. But I thought of desoldering the socket and resoldering back on again - unless I need a new one??
3 - the jamicon 1000uf 35v 85c in C7 & C8 are domed at the top and from reading your threads I notice this is a problem that needs replacing.
I have tried to upload pictures but cannot find a way to do this. I must add that the two led wires have now come off due to me taking the two boards apart and the front being heavy, pulling the cable!
Can you please help and advise me what is the best option for me? I’m a nice when it comes to soldering but am happy to give it a go?!
