This is the power section... A lousy 4x 470uF capacitors. This screams for an upgrade. Only there is not much room! The capacitors are close to the edge of the pcb and x-lp. Maybe the future (bigger) capacitors must be placed on some funny angles.
I'm stunned... MF did place Jamicon capacitors other than 85C versions. This is one of the Jamicon TK series and are rated 105C (470uF 16V).
Yes! 105C rated capacitors here as well.
Underside of the pcb of the x-lp. The soot of at the soldering of the switch for MM/MC selection. There is possibly a repair of a track on the pcb.
This is a crop of the last photo. It looks to me like there was a repair of a track and the solderpoint.
Not a recipe for disaster..... it will be fine BUT I never like resorting to funky angling..... the closer the caps are to the regulators the better.... longer cap leads = lead inductance yada yada...... it won't be a biggie and will sound a lot better than stock (a lot better) so don't worry Nando.
As you have probably gathered, I'm not into "free form funky" cap placement and I always like to keep things slick and tight fitting...... using the best replacement cap that will "fit" into the space available. I know, we don't look at capacitors when we are listening to music but nonetheless I like to know things are tidy under the bonnet Especially important when providing a kit of parts..... it has to sound awesome AND be simple to fit.... so, parts selection, as you have obviously found, isn't as simple as pressing a "buy it now" button
I've worked on a couple of them (X-LPS) and the last one was Laurent Moureu's XLPS...... slightly (only ever so) different from the X-LP and here are the pics:
Before:
After:
Just look how close the caps are to the regulators:
A few close up shots of various sections of the XLPS:
I gave the enclosure a good wash and, voila!, as good as new!:
Years ago i had an XLPS, i bought a trichord dino which was better sounding When i upgraded the caps etc i got off mike, it sounded just as good as the Dino, more detail in the mids Dont have either now but worth upgrading the inside of the xlp, there should be a thread i started on the subject somewhere on here from years ago Paddy

I havn’t used my xlp ar all for the last two years I think. My setup is so that my beogram 5005 is to far from my xlp that the sound is distorted. I think I should have putt my xlp close to the recordplayer and have a stronger signal over the long distance.
Soon I will be moving to another location and there will be another chance to get is right.
kandi: Hi Anybody here who knows how to get in touch with Mike about buying the X10-D upgrade kit? I've been trying to email him three times!
