It's been said that antimatter is matter going backwards in time.
"In quantum field theory, the TCP theorem says that if you apply the three operations of time reversal, charge conjugation (switch particles and antiparticles), and parity inversion (mirroring space), the result should be exactly equivalent to what you started with."
There is some confusion between antimatter (matter with an opposite electrical charge) and negative matter. Negative matter is analogous to virtual particles in that where nothing exists in a space at one point, two opposite particles can be made to appear - not with opposite electrical charges (as both of those would be real), but particles that are the physical inverse of each other, which eventually cancel each other out with no explosion or release of energy such as occurs with matter and antimatter.
And so where we see the universe as consisting entirely of real matter, an equal sized body of negative matter could cancel the universe without notice, as though it never existed.
