Got to be the best decade, artistically and musically. I'm so glad I lived and grew up throughout this decade. The music was fantastic, both pop and rock and is still reflected in most of my music listening these days. Great times. It's been posted here before but I love this evocative quote from the late British trade union leader, Bob Crow.
"I think the 70s was a great time," he says. "I've got to say, and this is God's honest truth, people say they were bad times but I think they was fantastic times. Sunday afternoon, for example – everyone had their dinner at the same time, half-past two, everywhere you walked round east London all you could smell was roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, everyone's old man was down the pub having a drink Sunday lunchtime, every kid was on the wall outside the pub with a bottle of Coke and packet of crisps waiting for their old man to come out the pub. There was jobs everywhere, people would come out of one job and into another. We had the big match on Sunday afternoon, and everyone was happy."

Yup, still play loads of stuff from that decade, especiailly rock. We probably all prefer the decade(s) we grew up in.

Here in the U.S. the "classic rock" or "progressive rock" era had its beginnings in the late 60's, with Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, a few things by the Beatles etc. Then circa 1971 everything exploded. Dark Side of the Moon, Who's Next, Layla, Led Zeppelin IV, ..... That was high artistry, and since then the studios have been simplifying and economizing. I love a lot of the New Wave music, and a few things since then, but Rock hit its pinnacle in the mid-70's and that was it. Fortunately we have good recordings, and a few of the remasters are better than ever.
Edit: I'm playing the Moody's Afternoon-Evening album on my iPod Touch using the Yuin PK1 earbuds.
