Early this morning with its epicentre in the Med. off the coast of Morocco. Measured at 6.3 there and also at 5.8 in Malaga city. The main shocks lasted between 10 and 15 seconds. This is only the second one I've experienced, the other being milder when holidaying in Greece. Where we are we experienced a gentle rumble and jingling ceiling lights. Northern Morocco (Melilla) and Malaga city experienced a proper shake and scattered structural damages, large cracks in buildings, falling masonary etc. Some details here

My worst wasn't felt exactly. On 1st October 1987 going onto the transition from the 10 East to the 110 North through downtown L.A., a 6.0 hit in Whittier just a few miles away. I was looking mostly North making the turn, and within about 2 seconds I was looking mostly East toward Whittier. Too late to feel anything except a huge desire to get off of that bridge. It reminds me to this day that bridges are built to resist sudden shocks from all directions, but the resistance isn't exactly as good in every direction. So if a quake hits the bridge on its weakest point, down it goes.
