Heard the entire new album, playing off youtube, today. Just the one listen but very impressed, one for the shopping list. Dark, complex and quirky is my initial impression, all in a good way.

How much better can you get..... he played his own death out, his feelings about death, the works..... truly superb! Most of these so called "stars" would have spent their last few months clinging on for dear life but Bowie took time out to share his vision of his demise in song. I love these lines: "Look up here, man, I’m in danger I’ve got nothing left to lose I’m so high it makes my brain whirl Dropped my cell phone down below
Ain’t that just like me."He quit the drugs back in the 80's and here he is now, in 2015, pumped up with Morphine (on Doctors orders)........ Heroin is bad for you but it's prescribed to you when you're dying....... SUPERB..... it seriously brought a tear to my eyes:

While I am deeply saddened to see the loss of such a talented musician,. I also feel sadness for the loss of innocent lives, even beautiful living things like a large tree. Several days ago, a large tree came crashing down in our backyard the day after torrential rain and strong winds. You don't have to be a mental giant to see that it's life was taken by irresponsible dickhead human beings, who several months earlier chopped off half it's root system to replace a fence with something more aesthetic looking for the next door neighbours.

Sod your tree........ David BOWIE has died! That is surely more important than a f**kin' tree? or is it?

A queer in tights with face paint is surely superior to a "tree"?

Who are we to think that any human being is more important than other living creatures ,including animals and even trees ? And that goes for figureheads of a nation such as QE2 , and the Kings and Queens of other countries., even sportspeople, and especially PMs and heads of State dangling like puppets on a string, with the strings being pulled by usually obscenely rich individuals more interested in their own needs.
Do you feel in any way inferior to QE2's husband, David Bowie, a reincarnated Tampon, or any previous U.K. PM or prominent person ? You have your own special talents that others don't have. Does that mean you are inferior because you aren't famous ?

I borrowed Ziggy Stardust from a friend in 1972, then bought it, Transformer by Lou Reed, Mott the Hoople, some stuff by New York Dolls, Television, Tom Verlaine, Johnny Thunders, etc. etc. etc. Then came Disco and Punk, then so many other things. One of my favorite lines from Mott the Hoople: "You can smoke my cigar all night through the link in your chain."
Now that's songwriting - no apologies - just good music. Too bad about Eric Burdon and Paul Rodgers - two of the best white blues singers ever - they shoulda done more blues.

David Bowie wrote so much good stuff and of such variety that everybody had something of his they liked. He also was himself in a wild and varied way to the point that people felt inspired and challenged at the same time. He did all these thing with honestly - unreliant on his fame - and without a hint of celebrity. Someone to admire. I think that's what makes him stand out to so many people - something - however much I am content with myself - I will get nothing close to.

It would be too easy to say I am / was not a fan and therefore wouldn't miss him but then I started to think about the songs I actually listened to: Changes, Life on Mars, Rebel Rebel, Starman, Jean Genie, Heroes, Space Oddity etc. Freddy's right - everybody had something of his they liked. Another Icon passed away.
