(a couple more but getting late here so will link up tomorrow.worth the wait )
rather than stray the topic I think and steal xerxes thunder (his thread, his project and a nice build) am starting a siamese twin that runs concurrent with that topic but this more to advancing some alternative ideas.Ideas just about totally from a single person but ideas that in the end work and work well,at least in my system.
first up in a general conversation on cable braiding. This thread has a wealth of information but also has a bit of "oh yeah ? well screw you" in it but not enough to ruin the content so a good read

general conversation on materials

I have also seen designs (not yet tried) using close to an "air" dielectric using the foam from stripped from a coax cable then having the wire spiraled on the outside in an "X" pattern, the same method but using a solid teflon tube and another using a cotton tube as the center.
my very first move away from conventional shelded coax-type interconnects was the very unconventional magnet wire interconnects here
www.soundstage.com/synergize/synergize021998.htm
a variation with a "twist".A very cool idea, one that will never be widespread but very appealing on the merits
db.audioasylum.com/cgi/t.mpl?f=tweaks&m=98797
another good lokng design with step by step instructions
didnt.doit.wisc.edu/audio/cables/cotton_silver_ic/index.htm
Imagine trying to explain that one to audiophile snobs ;D
I do not and have not for a very long time purchased any audio cables but if I did I would not hesitate to purchase a set of these considering the good results I have had with the freely published DIY versions. At $400 a set still maybe a bargain in todays market even though i have a REAL hard time justifying anything over the cost of Kimbers lower end cables that are maybe the best bargain cables out there

another candidate in the "skinny cable" competition would be the Crystal Cable interconnects that are more alike than not
www.6moons.com/audioreviews/thin/thin.html
oh yeah, this one is for Mikey
