Hi, I have just ordered a new active subwoofer but am confused as to how to connect it to my amp. The subwoofer has 3 connection sockets : a) Left In/Mono b) Right In c) Chain Out The amp has a Pre Out/ Active Subwoofer set of connections consisting of Left and Right. I am not sure if I need : a) One X single RCA to a single RCA Cable b)Two X single RCA to RCA cables c) One X single RCA to Double RCA cable. If I need the one RCA to two RCA option do I plug the single end into the Left/Mono In of the sub and the double end into the right and left out of the amp ? My confusion was made worse by the assistant at Exceptional HiFi who said that because I was playing the base mono through the subwoofer this meant that only one feed channel was needed and so only a single RCA to single RCA was required. To me this seemed wrong as the amp is not putting out a mono signal but a right and left signal so I feel that a double to single will be needed. I would greatly appreciate the heads up on this one as I will need to order the correct cables. Regards Alex.

It depends greatly on the specification of both the amplifier and the subwoofer, model numbers would help. If you have the set up manuals for both they should clarify the situation. On the surface of your question, without knowing more, I'd tend to agree with sales assistant.

Hi CJ, Thanks for the input. I have just found the online user manual for the Q Acoustics 3070s subbie (the one I ordered) and there is an explanation with a diagram. It says when connecting to the preamp out of an amp then you feed the right and left channels into both the right and left channels of the sub and the sub will then join the signals together so that no information is lost. On that basis I just need a 2 to 2 RCA cable and I will be sorted. Once again, thanks for the input.
