Hi guys, I think I need your advise. What do you think, what should be changed on this player (tube in the output stage, etc.)? When switched on takes 30 seconds to warm the tubes. This should be pretty normal, right? Then the player will play CDs sometimes for hours at a time without a fault, but every now and then it will drop out for a fraction of a second, then continues to play without fault,....this gets worse over time and becoming more frequent... This is when i usually switch the player off leave it for a day or 2, and then it starts all over again. Any hint? thank you all!!!

Sounds like a dry joint somewhere getting worse the warmer the player becomes. Does only the sound drop out for a moment or does the display dip too?

I replied thus via e-mail:
"Hi Emil,
If it were the tubes I would be inclined to say that you would experience a "whooshing" sound that would always be present, especially on silent passages of music. The symptoms you are experiencing do not sound tube related to me..... it could possibly be a faulty / intermittent connection (interconnect or phono sockets) and that would be the first place I would look Emil..... first thing to do is to change the interconnects and see if it still happens, if it does then it could be a loose solder connection on one of the RCA (phono) socket pads.
On second thoughts...... does this occur on BOTH channels? If so, then it is unlikely to be an interconnect or RCA socket and definitely not the tubes..... if both channels are intermittently cutting out then it could be the laser assembly that is starting to fail...... it could actually be quite a few things and impossible to diagnose online.
Are you sure it's not the amplifier that is cutting out? Never assume it's the CD player and always check every component in the chain to establish where the gremlin is emanating from.... it could even be something totally random such as a loose wire in your AC mains plug, you'll have to check everything...... once you have isolated the problem to a particular piece of equipment I may be able to offer further advice Emil.
I "do" sell the 6112 tubes but, from what you have told me, I don't believe the tubes are causing your present problem.
Hope this helps,
All the best,
Mike Grierson.

Thank you Mike, thanks also to cj. So, some more testing to isolate the issue is need, your advice is greatly appreciatted! (display desn't twinkle). And you right Mike, I think laser part should be changed now. If you have any idea where to find it for a good price....thank you!
Enjoy your day! -Emil

Enjoy your day! -Emil Hi Emil, You would really have to open the CD player up and take a high resolution "macro" shot of the laser assembly, I don't have a clue what mechanism they utilize in your CD player. Does it read the TOC (table of contents) quickly or does it hesitate? The drop out you refer to could be indicative of a failing laser mechanism, especially if it does it in a regular / routine pattern but CJ could also be correct. Keep us informed Emil and if you can get some photos of the laser mechanism we will be able to advise you further. Keep on rockin' in the free world! Mike.

Dear Mike (answer to cj too), the problem happens on both channels, the music just drops out for a split second then carries on playing ,, the display works perfectly. I'll hopefully manage the HiRes pic of it soon. Thanks you! -Emil
