I'm actually thinking that the caps are better positioned between the heatsink and am thinking about relocating the 2 x 2200uF over there as well or would you just leave them where they are?
Mike.

Nick, This thread should really have been in the DIY section, it will receive more notice there. There "are" people looking as it has already had almost 800 views but I think it would be better off in the DIY section, would you like me to move it? Page one number six on Google www.google.co.uk/search?q=chiara+headphone+amplifier&oq=chiara+headphone+amplifier&aqs=chrome..69i57j0.6339j0j8&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8#q=chiara+headphone+amp for "chiara headphone amp" so googlebot likes it Hi Yes loads of members making threads .. I suppose there is only a few of us making stuff these days .. which is a shame Nick It takes time for people to get involved, they won't all jump in like sheep.... they'll generally keep a close eye on things and if they like what they see they may then decide to join in and try it for themselves..... in a years time this thread could be massive but you can only get people interested by providing interesting content / facts / figures / pictures reviews etc. "JLH headphone amp / Chiara" are 4 words....... they mean sod all....... What cuts the mustard are threads like this....... plenty of photos, tips and tweaks and a general idea of the quality of the design. There are PLENTY of people still making their own amps Nick but it's up to us to explain JUST how good the JLH is (and WHY it is so good) to get fellow enthusiasts on board. Is it still available? Where can somebody but a kit of parts these days? You fleetingly mentioned that you had some PCB's printed but can you supply the boards, parts and instructions and, if so, what's the entry fee? There's possibly not a lot of interest because people can't source the kits..... if you can supply the kits then I reckon you won't have any problems selling them because the JLH is one superb amp, a true British classic. All the best, Mike.

Had a quick look .. yes looks ok to me But will have another check to make sure Nick I always like to double check Nick I made another one today, a "MKll" version which I will send over to Adrian..... it's basically the same 2 x 3300uF in parallel per side but this time bypassed with a 3.3uF film cap: There's room on the PSU board to fit an "add on" cap board with 6 x 3300uF on it so I'll probably do a MKlll version tomorrow 2200uF is pretty paltry but 2200uF PLUS 9900uF gives a much bigger reservoir of 12,100uF to draw from

The stakes are high here (a pork pie) so if push comes to shove I may have to dig deep into my armoury and pull out the big guns..... this puppy has been sitting in its bunker for the past 5 years...... question is...... will I need to employ its services to outgun the feline? I'm starting to think that this mama honker enclosure will need to come with a free shoehorn supplied to cram all this stuff in www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251547005798?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITShunt regulators, ripple eaters, extra capacitance, secret weapons........ this is "potentially" going to be a very interesting thread as long as Nick sticks with it and doesn't go running to the hills wailing like a woman The enclosure should be here early next month and I'm looking forward to stuffing it with some serious goodness....... Watch this space Pinkie.

Mike Just remember that the JLH PSU Add-on when used with parallel 4,700uFs already has a simulated capacitance of around 1 FARAD . Regards Alex

Hello Going to post some photos tonight .. just started the power supply, no running away from me !! he he also I think you are going to need a bigger case Yep, I think you're right Nick..... I'll maybe just fit the shunt thingway and be done with it or I'll end up with a headphone amp the size of a cooker Look forward to your pics, I never say no to a photo, it's always good to see what other people are doing with their builds. I've always found populating the boards to be a bit "non interesting", probably because I've done so many, but always look forward to fitting them into a virgin enclosure..... that's when the creative juices start flowing. The funniest part is.............. I need another amp like a hole in the head..... 33 of the buggers sitting gathering dust (I have downsized)...... oh well, one more won't go amiss
