I've decided to go totally minimalist with the Little Pinkie SE switch and am replacing the existing illuminated one (which has an integral lamp) with a high quality toggle switch. I see no reason why the Pinkie needs to have a glowing lamp to indicate that it is on as the amp that it will be powering will have it's own indicator. Going minimalist doesn't mean cost cutting, quite the opposite in fact, as the new toggle switches I am fitting cost FOUR times more than the illuminated ones. They are made by APEM (high quality switch makers since 1952) www.apem.co.uk/10-27838-Profile-history.php and are absolutely bullet proof having an electrical life of 10,000 cycles at full load which means they are good for tens of years (and then some).
The case is polyester UL94-VO rated, the actuator is nickel plated brass and the contacts are silver / nickel alloy. Damned nice switches with a reassuringly, positive "clunk" when you make and break the contact..... I am sick and tired of all this cheap "flashing lights" tat that is here for a year and then in a landfill for eternity stuff that is the current way of the world and I don't want to be part of it........ I would like to think that what I make will still be going strong in 100 years time and I am now confident that it will with the addition of a quality "old school" switch.
Little Pinkie may not "look" the part (to some eyes) but is, most certainly, built to last a lifetime with top quality parts..... I know because I build them. Every Little Pinkie SE comes with a 3 year warranty as standard.
New switch:
Switch in position:
Connections are hardwired (soldered) with Warton Metals Lead rich / silver solder (UK made) solder:
Flick the switch to the "on" position to achieve aural Nirvana.....
