I come across various vinyl forums with the horror stories of pvc outer sleeves (yes outer sleeves)turning the record a whitish colour and when you play the record there is loud hissing in with the music This is not reversable and you cant clean it off, i ripped all the pvc outer sleeves off my albums last night A mint copy of the Who live at leeds has a few white marks on it, have to see if i can salvage that one, all the rest look ok recordcollectormag.com/letters/ruined-vinyl-the-sequelsThere is loads of forums talking about this, if you live in a hotter country like the states, oz etc it will be lot worse Paddy

I suspect that it is released by the plastic Jewel case.

I will have to check my cd,s too, but i imagine they would be ok With you being in Oz Alex it will be a lot worse for you due to the heat, a lot of people complaining were in oz, Asia and the Usa (and Europe) The plasticisers in the pvc covers are migrating through the album cover and inner sleeve due to them being porous, and leaving the album with a milky white appearence, the BBC here in the UK had loads of records damaged this way Annoying really as these pvc covers are there to protect the record cover/record I bought all mine from covers 33 here in the uk, i wonder if they know about pvc covers but continue to sell them regardless Paddy

I've been a little detached from vinyl for many years and hadn't seen this point being discussed. As all my remaining LPs are in PVC outers and I live in a hotter country I'll need to have a good look through and see if I have too suffered the creep of the white residue.
