new 2.1mm DC socket...... did anybody notice? Hi Mike What is the temperature rating of the green electros ? Is 105C adequate at that location ? I notice that one output device has a small heatsink fitted, but due to space considerations the other hasn't. Personally, I would fit a small tapped 3mm metal standoff to the front side of the other one, just long enough to be flush with. or proud of it's front side , and attach some kind of small heatsink to the side with clearance. It likely won't make a huge difference, but may extend the life of the green electros and reduce PCB charring if left on continuously Kind Regards Alex

Hi Mike , seller is refunding on the V2 , so will keep on looking ! This was the reply he gave.
Hi
This unit has been bought as an ex display model from seven oaks sound and vision. I cannot comment on your email as i have not opened the unit myself ever. To be honest i did not expect that somebody will just open an amplifier. I had a look on the net and what you are describing there is something that is natural for any old equipment. The unit is in full working condition and in great aesthetic condition as described. I really cannot see how my auction was off in the description. if you send it back i will refund you however this is more to keep you happy since i don t think this is fair.
Thanks
I could have replied but i`ll leave it as is !
Ps... it`s back on ebay as i speak , no updated description... so buyer beware !

Hi Dave, The seller has been very fair and, as I already said, has done nothing wrong. It's not fair on him but it's also not fair to you if you are unhappy / unsure about the item you have received. He could have quite easily responded with a "you've opened it up and have been prodding about inside? go eff yourself!" type response (and that's probably what he's thinking) but he decided to refund you to keep all happy. Seems a decent guy and it's not everybody who takes a screwdriver for a peek under the hood when they purchase something, I can see where he's coming from, just strange buggers like us! Pretty strange that he has relisted it before he receives it back though, there is no guarantee that the return journey (back to him) will be a smooth one. The only thing I find a tad strange about his latest listing is the "Genuine non-modified example" part...... how does (did) he know it wasn't modified? He would have had to have had a look under the hood to see it wasn't modified surely I cannot believe that somebody will list an amplifier as "non-modified" without having a look under the hood to check Anyhoo....... all is good Dave but I do agree with your "buyer beware" warning...... now that the seller knows the state of play it's only "fair" that he reword the listing..... it is far from "Mint" and far from "original" condition. This is the relisted amp we are talking about right? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Musical-Fidelity-X-CAN-XCAN-V2-Mint-in-Box-/321708261493?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4ae74e8075 "To be honest i did not expect that somebody will just open an amplifier" erm..... some will also take photos and comment on it.

Hi Mike,
Yes, that`s the listing. I agree , relisted before receiving, and not giving an updated description, ( well he knows the issues, so ! )
I must also agree had i not found your website with the wealth of information provided regarding MF products in particular the HPA range, i may not have got the Can Opener out! There`s another on ebay however i`ve sent a couple of emails regarding board condition but no reply at the mo, maybe he`s not competent, or the boards maybe similar to the one i have sent back ?
At the moment i`m very skeptical buying blind , if one comes up locally i could always arrange to have a look under the bonnet !
The modded v2 you have done for Laurent Moureu looks stunning ! And i know in previous posts we`ve mentioned about me doing the mods but looking at the sheer quality of this v2 mod, i think i would rather employ your professional services if you would be happy to do this ?

Dave,
I've got an X-CAN V2 arriving next week and if it's a good one I'll give you the nod.

Hi Dave, The enclosure is pretty much perfect but there are a couple of slight heat marks on the PCB but these are to be expected and are only slight..... not like that one you had Laurent's V2 was in absolute pristine condition because he had never used it (had seldom used it) from new. I would be more than happy to recommend this one to you, all the pads are 100% sound and it's easy to prevent the diode on the top board making contact with it, I fit UF4004 diodes and raise them above the board. Yep, overall this is a VERY clean example and will go on for years and years. If you want it let me know. If not, I will mod the arse out of it and sell it thus: New 2.1mm DC socket Jalco pro headphone socket ALPS potentiometer Matching knob New gold plated quad phono socket Purple / blue LED 105c rated Panasonic FC capacitors UF4004 diodes MUSE coupling capacitors Ceramic valve / tube sockets Pair of precision matched triodes / 6H23N Russians 60/38/2 silver loaded solder / Warton metals English solder Every single solder pad will be desoldered and reflowed with 60/38/2 silver loaded solder I've got a few boxes of TIP110 / 115 transistors so will also fit new hand matched transistors (PEAK Atlas DCA) Anyhoo..... here is the V2 I'm talking about:
