Anyone else here suffer from the occasional bout of "terrible tiredness" or is it just me getting old or something? Where before I could sit at the computer for hours and type in screeds of stuff in a post I now generally just type in a sentence or two, just looking at the 'puter these days totally fuzzes my head up and, literally, leaves me feeling dazed and confused I'm going to try wearing glasses and see if they help and I'm also going to try and stop taking the sleeping pills cause I'm sure they're turning me into a daytime zombie. The Doctor reckons they're non addictive but I tend to disagree with him there as I now can't get to sleep unless I pop one of them (zopiclone) and if I don't take one before I go to bed I don't go to sleep as I'm expecting my "hit" so then I go and pop one and get off to sleep. This dazed feeling is probably a combination of failing close up eyesight (and me refusing to wear glasses) and also something to do with these sleeping pills (been taking them for about 7 months now) it could also be age or madness setting in I don't know Anyways, just wanted to know if anyone else here has gone through this type of thing (constantly feeling dazed and disorientated) I used to be able to do 18 hour stretches in front of the computer and feel full of energy, nowadays I can barely look at the screen without my head fuzzing over Any tips or screen tweaks most welcome

hell yes,ME !
I am in finacial survival mode right now and working jobs for wages I would have laughed not too long ago but I am in survival mode so have to do what I have to do if I want to get through but i gotta say it is kicking my ass and I have no desire left at all for anything but eat/sleep/work.
Working harder at 50 than I did at 30 for less money than I made in my twenties but with the cost of living X10 or more of that means I am f**ked and have no choice unless I want to become homeless. Not an option.I will go postal first
Right now I have a back ache so bad that it may need medical attention but have to leave for work in a bit instead so to say I am pissed off AND at the same time too fkn tired to give a shit would be an understatement.
Mentally tired is even worse and I am there also which is a bad thing because i will go from "fk it" to "someone is gonna pay" very soon and it aint gonna be pretty man.I have a talent for being one nasty human when I feel like my back is to the wall and it is there and yes, someone will push the wrong button and end up damaged goods (if I can understand what the f**k they are saying.I not only do not speak spanish but have no shot at all the dialects)
i feel ya mike. Not only have i been there and done that but am there right now

There's an arguement that we work longer for less and we did about fifteen years ago, taking into account inflation and all the other taxation changes. It certainly seems that way to me.

What are your viewing conditions like Mike?
On the subject of room lighting: Make sure you don't point your screen at a window because you'll be squinting past the glare all the time, but equally, don't place the thing so you are looking out of a window instead because a strong light source behind the screen is almost as bad. During daylight hours you should have your monitor at right angles to the window, and preferably on the opposite wall. At night, a soft indirect light source (like a table lamp) behind the monitor will help alleviate eye strain (Philips know what they're talking about with the AmbiGlow system, or whatever it is called on their TVs.). Sometimes my architecture degree does come in handy I guess. Only sometimes.
I don't want to be patronising with the ergonomics bumpf, but your monitor should ideally be 18-24" away from your face, with the top edge at eye level and tilted slightly backwards so it is perpendicular to your line of sight while looking at it. You should also vary the head-monitor distance or look at something that's further away from time to time to stop your focus locking up.
Oh, and if you can't see the screen clearly from 24" away without glasses, then yes you should be wearing them regardless of how stubborn you are feeling.

I had great vision up until around three years ago and I am convinced my increased workload on the computer is the cause of my vision problems. It started out to where I needed glasses sometimes and is now at a point where I need them for everything except walking around and yes it sucks and yes it is hard to accept when you spend your entire life NOT looking like a nerd Worse is it is a progressive thing where wearing glasses for occasional duty means you come to NEED them for all reading. At first i could not walk with mine on without getting vertigo and watching TV or looking at a computer monitor i could actually see the pixels. NOW I need them for the computer or I can not read shit and doing the on'off watching TV is like going from regular TV to Hi Definaition TV The price we pay for our "conveniences" is sometimes a high one

Hey Rick. Think of it this way. ...
You have more fashion component than any non-eyeglass waring people. You should see me with a nice pair of black-rimmed glasses and black suit. I look like a LEGITIMATE businessman!

Depends on what you consider "fashion" I am more of a sunglesses type of guy with a prefernce for "cat eye" shaped lenses like these Smith's or these Oakley's or light framed something like this But if I try that with reading glasses I get serious eyestrain so I need a large lens and that makes me look like a freakin' nerd and we can't have THAT The only time you will see me in a black suit is if someone died I am more of a casual/New England/Great outdoors type dresser with my idea of dressing up a pair of khakis and an Izod shirt and for special occasions I throw in a vest ;D

The only time you'll see me in "any" colour of suit is if I am dead. No way will I wear one of those things......they're not practical, I much prefer jeans and a T-shirt. When I dress up I throw in a pair of underpants
