I'm finally expecting my CanAmp in about a week to 10 days. Any suggestions for getting the best from it with my Ultrasones, which range in impedance from 40 ohms with my PROline 2500 to 75 ohms with my HFI-650? I've heard loads of great things about its synergy with harder to drive cans like the HD650 and K701, but next to nothing about its performance with easier-to-drive phones. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Dex

Nobody? C'mon, Mike, don't make me go to goat-fi with this!

those would be classified "easy" cans to drive not hard being that all you need is a voltage gain stage,a requirement that can be filled by any good preamp with a good output drive if the output cap or transformer is suited. It is the low impedance cans that are hard to drive and place a higher demand on the amp than having simply enough gain. High current means high powered more like a mini speaker amplifier than preamplifier, something the Heed should handle eeasily since it is rated as a SPEAKER amp also that according to the manufacturers data gets nearly a full watt into an 8 ohm load,a load that would embarrass many highly touted "sennheiser ready" amps If there is a synergy problem anywhere it may be in the gain amount which on paper looks to be a tad high for use with low Z highly efficient cans, understandable when you try to make a "universal" headpgone amp for any and all headphones so if the case you may need to pad down the input a bit or modify the feedback loop for lower gain if you want to retain a good volume control profile (get it away from the bottom of the rotation where ALL pots suck in L/R tracking) though until i get my mitts on one just conjecture. Time for you to do the report maybe and end all questions/conjecture ?

It's here! OK, four hours into my new life AC (After CanAmp) and I'm pleased to report that it merely gets pleasantly warm (operating temperature-wise), but certainly nothing more extreme. My largest concern in ordering this without having heard it beforehand was that it had been voiced with the Sennheiser HD600/HD650 in mind and might consequently prove to be an impedance mismatch with my Ultrasones (PROline 2500 and PROline 750), which are rated at 40 Ohm. I was thinking I might need one of those 120 Ohm adapters just to get any decent kind of volume-pot travel with such low-impedance cans. Turns out I needn't have worried. This CanAmp provides spades of current for the power-sucking Ultrasones and I have the full range of the volume-pot at my disposal, with a listening comfort zone from anywhere between 9 o'clock and 2 o'clock (and beyond even, for low-level mastered recordings). Early impressions are most encouraging...and this is just the CanAmp using my CD Walkman as source. Can't wait to hear it in the big system. So far, I'm a very happy bunny!

that is where you will likely run into the volume control bugaboo if anywhere.Getting good volume and drive from a portable putting out voltages in the "percentage of" range means the voltages your typical home source puts out will mean running the volume pot at the bottom of its range where tracking is at its worst.
IF the Ultasones are high efficiency cans anyway. Not all low impedance headphones are
