Hi Javier
good spot.
it looks interesting and cheap enough to try.
still plenty of work and a little cash sorting out decent PSU and clock arrangements though.
but as a slow build and mod project it looks good value.
the down side is no build guide but maybe that's coming.
take care

As a good 100MHz XO, say from the likes of Crystek like the B3, goes for 30$ plus shipping and maybe even other costs like customs/VAT if ordered from Mouser, I'd say sync mode from the USB->I2S/DSD source would help to keep the cost acordingly as this would be a low budget project. If the Amanero galvanic isolation + reclocking module finally becomes a reality it could be a perfect match. Still, I'll wait a while and see if he also releases a DAC that beats this one and how this board evolves, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a Rev. 3 sooner than later. I'll keep an eye on HIFIDuino's blog and see what he finds out.
Cheers

HIFIDuino has updated his 9018 board blog entry with new pics and comments about PS requirements.
I wonder how much will it cost once all the parts, PS, and traffos are added. Of course parts quality will be the deciding factor, if boutique/exotic ones are used I guess it can get quite expensive. Say DIP8 AD797 (the ones specc'ed in the 9018 data sheet) are used as opamps, as six are needed and they sell at RS for 9.28€/ea just these will add a hefty 55.68€ to the project, on the other hand a more modest part like the LME49710 will only add 10.93€ (6 x 1.822€) and would probably be good enough in this context. IMO unless plenty of care and is taken at selecting parts it could en costing even more than the already built options.

If you want cheap I'd go with a different dac chip guys, the ES9018 is a real picky bugger. By the time the supplies and output stage are optimized it gets complex and expensive . The results with these things can be excellent but it'll cost you. I'm still fannying about with output stages now the supplies are the best I can get them.

Yes i agree the Buffalo board W/O psu and what not is not so much more expensive and ready built with all components. I'd guess that Will's PK or the 5102 marmite would show this one a clean pair of heels. just a guess as I've not heard one for myself. take care
