This is my first post on this forum but I have something you guys might find interesting. About eight or nine years ago, after experimenting with some cheap (very) Stax electret cans, I was bitten by the high voltage bug and started my adventures in esoteric headgear via Audio Technica and Jecklin. It wasn't long before I realised that I would never be happy until I had bought a 'proper' pair of Stax earspeakers in all their vacuum tube loveliness.
I had long harboured a desire to own a pair of Stax Omega 2's with the 007t valve amp but at around £3500 for the setup (at that time) it seemed just wishful thinking so I got real and saved my pennies for the SR4040 Signature II consisting of the SR-404 earspeakers and SRM-006t valve amp. I couldn't wait for them to arrive. But then something quite bizarre happened.
Word had gotten around that I had a thing for the Omega 2 and a friend of a friend of a friend gave my email address to someone who had owned a pair of these phones for less than a year and was looking to sell. As is the way with these things I needed to grovel to the wife with my cock-a-mamy story of how I couldn't live without the Omega 2's and that I could easily sell the Signatures to offset the cost. I think she basically caved because she couldn't bear to live with my bottom lip sticking out for the remainder of our marriage.
And so I became the ecstatic owner of the big daddy Omega 2's and they are still the love of my life, my wife having long departed my life like so many other things in the world these days.
I am selling the Signature System II. They have never been worn, they have never been plugged in, in fact they have never been properly unpacked, they are pristine and unused. I opened the box and did a quick check of all the bits and pieces when they arrived but since then they have been stored in the cool, dry darkness of a bedroom closet for nigh on five years.
I'm not giving these phones away, I'm looking for £950 but I won't move much beyond that. I would prefer the buyer to collect otherwise postage will be at the buyers cost and I will accept a cheque provided the buyer waits until it has cleared. I want them to go to a good home so I thought you guys might appreciate them more than someone with a passing interest. If there is serious interest I will unbox them but perhaps this is something the buyer would prefer to do themselves as these are basically brand new.
I haven't advertised them for sale anywhere else, you guys have first refusal. I have some piccies for you below but there isn't really much to look at as I haven't done a proper unpacking for the reasons given previously. This is only the second time the polystyrene has been removed.
P.S. Don't forget, they are unused so if you go for it you will have around 200 hours of burn in to contend with.
