A friend of mine whose ears I trust told me of the Bantam Gold Amp which he purchase and loves the sound it produces with the AKG K1000 and the HiFiMAN HE6 cans. Being sold by a British company I wonder if any of you has run across it and what you thought of it. Yes it is a switching amp so bear with me. BTW my friend is using an SLA battery instead of the switching psu. www.templeaudio.net/bantamgold.html

Miguel, A friend of mine by the name of Ali Tait, whose ears I very much trust, on Art of Sound forum, has these I believe (he certainly has Bantam Gold amps so they may well be the same item) and he is very pleased with them. Take a look at post #6 here: - theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10935&highlight=bantam+goldThe Caiman (by Stanley Beresford, another member of AOS) that is being compared with the Bantam, is very Highly thought of on AoS, as is the Mini-T genre in general. Hope this helps, Dave.

Thanks for the feedback Dave. I have listened to the older models of the Beresford DAC and I liked it a lot.

Well Miguel, just in case you have not read the thread in detail, the new Beresford DAC, the Bushmaster, is getting some really rave reviews, far better than the previous B-DACs, from the vast majority of people that have heard it or bought it BUT a very small minority were not so keen. It seems to be system dependent to a small degree. One of the fans for the Bushmaster on the linked thread is jandl100 (Jerry), who has some very good kit (look at his signature) and is well known as an amateur reviewer on a site called 'Hifi Pig' and his opinions are very well thought of. Cheers, Dave

Looks like a nice Amp Miguel, and very reasonably priced. Looking for something else to try with my HE-6`s, this could be the one.
Mick.

Dave, 200 BP seems a reasonable price. Interesting it does not have USB input.

Miguel, Yep, the lack of the USB input surprised me too as Stan's previous DACs (7510, 7520 and Caiman all had USB inputs. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Stan had shortened the signal path, with beneficial results, so much that putting a USB input into the circuit would mitigate against that - but my memory is shite so if that doesn't make sense, forget it. Stan is an unusual manufacturer and designer in that he is quite happy to 'talk' to his customers and potential customers direct so fire him an e-mail off and I'm sure he'll respond in quick time. See his web site for details: - www.homehifi.co.ukBTW, where did you get your £200GBP price from? In UK they are £149 or £159GBP without tax or shipping, depending on what colour front panel you want. (No tax would be payable for a non-Eu buyer. If it would be cheaper to buy in the UK and ship to Miami let me know and we might be able to work something out and save you a copper or two . Cheers, Dave.

The Beresford does have a tempting price point. Is it worth a curious purchase?

I was thinking that somehow we could buy at ex-VAT price and get it delivered to Miami for a little less than £40 or £50 but probably easier to say than actually achieve . Dave.

The Beresford does have a tempting price point. Is it worth a curious purchase? Funk, Many people think so - have you had a skim through the above linked thread on AoS? Stan is a very nice and reasonable guy and may be willing to offer you one on a 'sale or return' basis but you'll need to ask him - I'm sure he'll respond and not 'bite your head off' for asking. Dave.

I do not need any more GEAR! I am selling a lot of stuff to support the hi-fi curse. BTW, I do not post the stuff I have for sale because it would cost a lot to ship it overseas. But … I do have some cool stuff.

You tease...
You don't have to hide your interest in more gear. (To regain my sanity I'll just play some music again.)

I agree in being a gear tease, see the new post I am starting on a portable tube amp.

The Beresford does have a tempting price point. Is it worth a curious purchase? The Bushmaster is worth far more than a curious purchase, I have a 7510 which is now retired as I am currently listening to my Bushmaster. Unlike the 7510, the Bushmaster has a good headphone amp stage, which has made me rethink replacing my HD595's. I asked Stan Beresford what he thought about running mine through my soon to be finished Panda, he said he'd be surprised if the Panda could beat his amp stage. I'll be the judge of that one though! I went for the silver export version to match the Panda chassis.

I have listened to the 7510 and thought it was very nice, tempted by this new model.
