For those of you who are able to DL from HDtracks, there are now 4 Norah Jones albums available in high resolution up to 24/192. "Little Broken Hearts" is however only available at 24 bits 44.1 kHz. For those of you who don't believe that MP3 at 320kBits is all that is needed, these albums will sound considerably better than the original Red Book CD versions, especially later albums that heve been painted with the "Loudness Brush." "Come Away With Me" is reported by quite a few to now be reference material. As a Norah Jones fan, I would definitely agree with this. Alex Attachments:

Even for those that convert the higher res files to say 320k MP3 will ALSO benefit of the increased SQ. reason being... it's not the higher resolution that's the cause of the good SQ but the albums were remastered without usage of compressors, limiters and other sound degrading operations that normally fill the need of the industry for the masses. highly recommended if you like Norah Jones and feel free to convert to MP3 (Blasphemy.. I know ;D)

I'm guessing the MP3's are for playback on a portable device where the last bit of resolution is probably masked by ambient noise and portable player limitations. Is there a need for MP3 elsewhere?

You guesed right.
The resolution of the Sansa Fuze is the same as from DAC's like this the iStreamer DAC, the Fuze portable always runs on batteries as well and is a lot cheaper, can also do WAV.
24/192 Album = > 2GB so only 3 to 4 albums on an 8G card SD player which it cannot reproduce in that format if it were able to read it. same album MP3 320 => 100MB so 20x more albums, the same SQ/pleasure on portable DAP... a no brainer when you want to be able to take lots of albums with you instead of just a few.
a need elsewhere ? Car radio, cheap stereos or to audition an album (with a quick download) come to mind

or on tour with your whole CD collection aboard. Fantastic company if you're in a country where no one speaks English and you're stuck in a hotel!! However, a few high quality rips in there is a nice luxury for the best stuff. Especially with a nice portable amp and a really good headphone.

My FLAC's vary tremendously in lossless compression. Tracks with a lot of quiet or little going on seem to compress well, while tracks with a lot going on do not as a rule. Of course it might do well to read up on all the technical issues in those Foobar settings for example, but I don't want people standing around my casket in 20-30 years saying "Well, he really knew Foobar, but he wasn't worth s*** for anything else."

For my own personal use, for my ears and by own reckoning & IMHO;
MP3 is only for checking out new stuff.
FLAC is for my portable, Fuze+. I am satisfied that it sounds better than MP3 on the portable and that I cannot hear any benefit from WAV on the portable under normal usage.
For home listening is has to be WAV for me. Only last night I was wondering why my music sounded so lacklustre, I then realised that I had pointed Foobar to the copy of the FLAC files (for the Fuze+) on my PC rather than the WAVs. Switching over brought instant improvement. Granted the files are stored differently as well but that's not the point for me under my usage.
I repeat:
For my own personal use, for my ears and by own reckoning & IMHO
Alex,
No worries for the cleaning brush to sweep this away too if you feel it necessary.
