Hmm. It looks like a rebranded Go-Dap 4. Comparison: Go-Dap VAMP Given that the VAMP also seems to be made in Japan it seems likely that Venturecraft is acting as the OEM in this case. The VAMP is $600 and the Go-Dap is JPY30,000 (around $375) but the latter doesn't seem to be available in the US in any form yet, and only launches in Japan tomorrow apparently. I wonder if V-MODA struck a deal for (temporary) exclusivity in the west? -JoetheArachnid

Here's what I hear from vmoda: if you see "it is a rebadged GO-DAP", that isn't the case as we partnered with Venturecraft and acquired the exclusive rights to this product in most countries. ........ Ours is like a V 6.0 and has double the power amp 150 vs 70, new chipset for DAC/OP-AMP (TI opa1612), 2200mah battery vs 1580, ...... and sound processing "VQ" mode.
Edit: I don't know anything about the $375 product or whether the vmoda features make it a deal for $600 - I'd like to hear more.

Hmm, well at least that confirms what I thought about brokering a deal for exclusivity, at least in terms of local sales. As far as I can tell the current Go-Dap 4 is being sold as a specifically 'Burr-Brown OPA' version so It wouldn't surprise me if there are various chipset variations in the amp section. Changing the DAC seems more unlikely unless it's literally a drop-in replacement chip like WM8741 to WM8742 for example (in which case the gains would be not great) since that would probably involve creating an entirely new circuit from scratch and so might as well be a separate product. I suppose that a smaller chipset could have been made to accomodate a bigger battery but that would seem a lot of effort to not also be used on the Go-Dap line. I don't know, I just feel that if V-MODA really wanted to make their version seem not a clone/rebadging of the Go-Dap they could at least have made the exterior design somewhat different or at the very least changed some of the colours.
Will be interesting to read a comparison of these, if anyone ever feels the need to buy both.

I did manage to find in one review that when the iphone is live (not in 'airplane' mode) it tends to generate interference, which can be heard as hiss or noise. That could be fatal for me, if the interference is strong enough (even if very faint) to outweigh the sonic improvements.
