Amazon in the USA has the V6 on sale for $40 USD including free shipping. Not a bad price at all.

Just got my V6's to replace broken 7506. Amazon USA great price. running tones through them now. but so far they sound awesome. not as harsh as the 7506 that i had previously. These will be used for wondering with the dog and travelling. awesome!

That's exactly what I thought!! The V6 isn't exactly the same as the 7506. I found the V6 slightly warmer as well.
They can be had for some good prices too.

I have a MINT pair of 7506 (got them at the same time Ian got his) which have been recabled with Evolution OFC Pro cable and terminated with a high quality Neutrik Jack (by me)..... I never use them so if anyone is interested, make me an offer. I can take photos if required

I got a V6 Mike, and compared. Found the V6 slightly less aggressive in the treble and sent the 7506 to Frans who hated it. That's the one Layums had. The V6 is kinf the same really but I have found that it's like a laser at hearing crap in recordings and also spotting noisy mixing pots etc. It's actually a pretty good monitoring tool once you get over the screaming top. It has a limited bandwidth really and an odd top end which is curtailed at about 12KHz so it's more aimed at monitoring than a cosy hi fi user who enjoys big bass and warm sounds!!

Hi Guys, My first post on here after Rabbit invited me via a chat on Amazon, I have just bought the V6 on Rabbit's advice & looking forward to testing these out I'm looking forward to getting back into Music again as I'm profoundly deaf & gave up listening after being forced to sell my separates system, life just didn't offer me the chance to slow down & chill till recently, so here goes for a hopefully musical existence. Seems like a good bunch of ppl on here & very knowledgeable

Hi there. This is Ian.
I was a bit worried about odd people coming in and complaining on Amazon. Welcome to RG. We're a small collection of people, but there is an awful lot of experience and knowledge in different areas so we all seem to compliment each other most of the time, rather than try to score points.
The V6 works well on the Fire and has enough resistance to cut out the inherent hiss that the Fire produces because it's not really the best source to use from the headphone socket.
Since you have problems in the top area, the V6 will give you the clarity that you may well need. I use mine quite a lot on portable units.
I'm a musician and use headphones all of the time to be honest. However, for work, we listen for different things in comparison to hi fi people. A headphone needs to enhance/rosy up what is heard for performing so that the performers feel 'supoorted' by what they hear. They also need to be able to play at 'life' volume without struggling so the players are playing into a virtual 'room'. However, for monitoring, we need something more analytical to listen for tech problems.
Home use is very different in that we can tailor the sound to our own individual musical preferences. Some guys like a fat, fruity bass while others like a more edgy sound. Depends on your hearing.
So for me, although I have used headphones for 40 years, I still learn a lot from hi fi people with regards to best equipment but I also know (have taught myself....) how to spot good sounding gear.
However, I also know that gear is only suitable for individual needs and from what you were saying about your hearing, I felt that you could go a lot cheaper than you were suggesting with that Cmoy and help the top end with regards to it. The DT770 might be way too bloated for you and in fact, after reading your posts, I did check the 770 and V6 together and also tested the V6 with another musician friend who has damaged his ears from too much live music. He preferred the V6 for the reasons I was saying on Amazon.
The V6 has a nice sharply etched top with a fruity delivery of bass lines which will be nicely tidied up by your Cmoy which will deliver the necessary current to drive it properly so you'll get a better bass too.
Interesting that you went for an amp straight away. Good move. Gets enough power to the headphone to make them deliver a cleaner signal.
I find that the V6 does actually improve from an amp as well. I hope you enjoy it.

Very busy atm so a quick fire reply until I have more time.... Still excited to hear the V6's when they come in the post..If this does what I hope it does, then I will freely admit that it will be a very emotional experience indeed!

Hi again, May I offer my profound thanks to Rabbit for his recommendation, time & advice Re Sony MDR V6's. These are giving me most of the notes that I have been unable to hear with cheaper headphones due to hearing loss, they do sound amazingly good, and with the higher top on the V6 I can hear pretty much every note on a flute, which for me is amazing! I've only had a few hours on them since they arrived today, and I'm using a cheap 3.5mm jack to jack cable for the CMOY amp. Once I find some cash I will upgrade this to a better cable. I do have one query and this perhaps is in the wrong place on this forum. It's regarding the 18V CMOY amp, is there any way to boost the output on this, perhaps by using bigger caps or will it need a total redesign? cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170951307206 I'm finding that it's at 80-100% of it's max output depending on what I'm listening to and tbh would like a little more gain for some of my music collection. I'm wondering if I need something other than a CMOY perhaps a valve? Or is it possible to series link TWO CMOY amps without blowing something up? I'm clueless on this subject, which I think will be obvious by now, & hopefully I haven't caused anyone to spill their coffee at the idea of not having sufficient output from what most appear to consider a powerful wee amp!

The short amswer is yes.
It's down to a couple of resistors that set this. You may wish to ask the seller what the gain has been to so you know what to aim for.
I found a better picture, from your sellers items, showing said resistors more clearly.
My best guess is that the gain has been set to either the classic 11 or 4. It's always hard to read resistor colour coding!
One of those resistors could be changed e.g. 10K to a 15k. Assuming the other resistor is 3.3k that would give an increase in gain from 4 to approx. 5.5. (15k divided by 3.3k plus one)
Maybe someone else can tell for sure?
Ps values in red corrected!

Thanks CJ, I will have a close look & identify what the values are and see about a wee change Not funny being deaf & needing so much power, my wife is looking at me & shaking her head lol Even she hasn't fully realised the extent of it! (Until now). Have a great New Year

Great. I had a feeling they'd suit you. Not everyones' cup of tea but we need to keep the end result in mind and the person's hearing. From what you were describing, I felt that they'd communicate well for you.
I use them myself but if your amp is having trouble driving them, then I would guess that it is set at low gain as Chris has said. (4)
By upping the gain, it just means that you get more travel on the Vol pot but you could also get more noise.
What are you connecting in to it? It could be that the device you are connecting has a low output from the headphone socket.....
I'm hoping it's an Ipod. If it is, then you need a change of cable and it will be louder. They are very low into an amp straight from the headphone jack. From the dock connector they are much louder. (EU volume limit is a pain and makes you think the amp has no power)
The V6 is quite sensitive. About the same as a Senn PX100 so my feeling is you are connecting to a low output device.

Hi Rabbit, I am using my laptop at max for now, I tried a sansa clip which gave pretty much no output, perhaps the EU vol limit. I don't have a dedicated player atm, as I didn't need one previously as I'd given up on music, so an ipod type device is something to save up for, the only other thing I have is my desktop PC with a dedicated ASUS Xonar D2 soundcard, or my Samsung galaxy s2 cellphone.
The wife thinks the amp is loud from the laptop & she cant have the gain past maybe (with 7 O'clock being off) past perhaps 8-9 o'clock, & I'm at 4-5 o'clock, with 5 being the max..
Bit tight for cash atm but will be looking for an ipod later on, perhaps for next x-mas lol

Check on the computer that the 'advanced' settings are max'ed. Not just via the icon (if you have one) but on the advanced settings, you can turn wavs up/down individually. They may not be at maximum.
The Sansa Clip is excellent but try going into settings and take it OFF European and set it for 'The Rest of the World'. The European setting limits how much volume comes from the headphone out and if you set it to the 'Rest of the World' you'll get a lot more volume.
If that's not loud enough, then the amp needs to be set to a gain of 11 as Chris mentioned.
I have the Clip Zip. It's excellent. (as well as Ipods) Many people in Europe will naturally set them to 'European' settings without realising that they are imposing a volume limit on their players.
If you need help to find it, I'll check mine out and tell you the headings. It's really easy and changes nothing else.
If you need any more volume to aid your hearing then it has to be a more powerful amp but be careful not to do any damage to your ears. Turning up the volume increases ALL frequencies and the Sony has a peak in the treble that will also increase along with the rest.
Normally, CMoys are pretty powerful.

Thanks Guys, Changed the Sansa to "Rest of World" It's now usable with everything at max as is my S2, very little headroom on either, but at least it's usable now. Saved me tossing the clip back into a drawer as useless I actually knew about the Euro limit & totally forgot that it may be part of the issue. I haven't stopped smiling or listening since the new gear arrived this morning. New Year--New world to explore--Rock on! The wife is fed up already with the sound leakage when she's watching tv lol Just remembered that I have a neighbor who is an electronics geek, who replaced some surface mount components on a fried video card for me (Ex IBM hard drive R&D technician) I will ask him to have a look & see what he can do with the CMOY, should be a simple task for him & perhaps get him to build a recharge circuit into it.

Glad you have it sorted. It must be loud if the wife can hear it. The v6 has quite a good seal normally. Is it flat down on your head?
I place mine on the flaps of my ears so that inside the cups and the front edge of the headphone rests on the Little bit that juts out on your ear at the front. That way, I get an amazing seal and a strong bass as a result.
They are a good headphone in many ways. However, be careful of extreme high volume.
