Is there a resource anywhere for this?
For example the AKG K701, which is a 62ohm headphone has been found to work best on an amplifier capable of an O/P imp. of 120ohm.
What about other popular models?
Or is this directly linked to the headphones impedance, e.g. double like the 701?

Hi Chris No. It is whether or not they were designed to comply with the old IEC61938 specification. It specifies that headphones should be driven from a 120 ohm source irrespective of impedance. The Audio Technica W1000 is another headphone among many, that were designed to comply with this specification. Regards Alex
