Pink Floyd like opening that speeds up as it builds in a drone and then launches into a more prog rock type feel. All based on an improvisation around one chord and in 3 time rather than yer normal 4. It’s not until the last part of the track that other chords are introduced. It is definitely reminiscent of Pink Floyd and it fades away into wind sounds which link it to the title track, ‘The Black Chord’ which is 14 minutes long.
This has a nice little riff going through it and some really nice harmonies in the instrumental parts. The funny thing is, it sounds like rock but tamed down and played really cleanly. Vocals in this track which have been double tracked and harmonies added. The playing is very precise. Again, Pink Floyd like organ sounds and a lovely synth impro. This track is in 7 time. At times, you feel that it could easily have gone into distorted, dirty sounds, but it remains beautifully clean. You don’t normally hear rock played like this. It’s all very precise. There’s also a Deep Purple type of sound in the organ solo later on.
I kind of get Pink Floyd/Deep Purple/Focus vibes in this album. It’s quite strange hearing rock played cleanly.
This is the 14 minute track if you have the time!!!!
I quite like this track:
A rather nice slow track:
There is something nostalgic about this music, bring me memories of Floyd, King Crimson, Focus, Deep Purple.
'The Weirding' is their debut album. Also very nice.
Both available on Amazon as a download. 320Kbs with no DRM. 'The Black Chord' is a really cheap download too.
