Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau recently bit the dust, and I made a comment on Stereophile where I said how much I enjoyed my Solti-Chicago recording of Beethoven's 9th with Fischer-Dieskau, ever since 1972. And then I was gently reminded that he was not singing on that recording, unless he snuck into the choir somewhere.
So in atonement for that gaffe, I found an import CD on Amazon, Mahler: Des Knaben Wunderhorn & Lieder - and I ordered that. Now Herr Fischer-Dieskau can rest in peace, knowing that when I speak of how much I enjoy his singing, it's actually his singing.
BTW, the song samples sounded quite good, with decent instrumental sound.
