Hmm, Bose? More associated with Lifestyle Hifi and Professional PA speakers. I've known about Bose for a long time, and I gave up on the QC2 only because it fell apart and I didn't have any confidence in Bose quality after that. But reading more of the reviews and complaints about the low value for the money, then yes, the value is low if you compare SQ to price and ignore everything else. But in the case of the OE2i, adding features to SQ and then comparing to price, I feel pretty good about it. But it looks fragile, and if it doesn't last very long I'm ........ actually I'm going to send it back to Bose for replacement. No matter how bad it is it can't be as bad as a Sony, a Hewlett Packard product, or a Motorola battery for a cellphone, to name some disasters I've spent money on.

Does it have 30 days money back satisfaction guarantee? Yes, they do! Now, I shouldn't ever try a thing like this, since the Bose is only $180 and half of that is the features (if you accept its features of course). But I listened to the Beyer DT1350 and OE2i side by side, using treble boost for the Bose, and still the Bose isn't there on the high end. Still, I will keep the Bose and make it my test case for Bose reliability. Every day at least once I will take it out of the case and unfold it and listen a little, then fold it back up into its case, and see how long that lasts. If it doesn't hold up, I will take it or send it to Bose and get a replacement, then wait that one out too. Listening to the Hugo Audiophile track I have with the DT1350 - first time. Good.

Saw this HP at a computer shop of all places. So it definitely will appeal to all those Ipod and geek generation. Not cheap for what it is made of and size.

Saw this HP at a computer shop of all places. So it definitely will appeal to all those Ipod and geek generation. Not cheap for what it is made of and size. For me, I remember hearing the Bose 901 ages ago and it made a great impression. It's interesting how their stores no longer in most (all?) cases don't display the latest 901, which should sound very dramatic. It makes me think Bose is distinctly trying to have an image that has little to do with hi-fi in any traditional sense. I bought the Bose QC1 for airline travel, but the dongle is inconvenient. I bought the QC2, and although it broke 3 times in one year and I tossed it, I thought it had a very nice midrange. The QC15, its replacement, sucks compared to the QC2. The QC3 is far worse. In addition to Bose separating themself image-wise from high fidelity (heh), they seem to have no idea how their products actually sound. Which raises the question of whether they are consistent from sample to sample. So I bought the OE2 because of the features and fit, and because the sound was OK and amenable to adjustment on the iPod. This is similar for me to all those small Sony products I bought, and most all of them failed. Nice features, poor reliability. So I'm hoping for a miracle with the Bose OE2. Come to think of it, I need to take the OE2 for a walkabout today - I've been enjoying the Beyer DT-1350 for the last week or two and I'm spoiled.

Finally, I managed to hear the OE2 against the AE2 at the Apple store of all places. Didn't manage to hear the IE2 though as not displayed. Anyway, I wouldn't hear a display set too after all the possible wax on it for sure. Really, not bad sounding for the OE2. AE2 sucks though and has a distant hollow sound. As I didn't have any other reference HP around to compare it with, I can only say it was good sounding for the OE2. Next time, I better bring my fake Dr Dre Tour along as it's very small. I wouldn't be reviewing the fakey at RG but you should get the hint of how good it is from my action. I was taken aback of the Bose OE2 after what I'm used to Bose from the 901.

The severe HF rolloff of the OE2 is shared perfectly with the Harman/Kardon CL and the B&W P3, both of those Apple exclusives at this time. Coincidence? Maybe not. Anyway I have a suspicion that unlike most premium headphones that employ fancy housings, materials, padding and lots of engineering to smooth the response and damp resonances etc., Bose with their QC15 and AE2 are minimizing build and using EQ to "smooth" the sound. Just a guess BTW, based on 1) Holding them and not quite believing they could look and feel so cheap, i.e. as though I were holding a plastic shell with piezoelectric beepers inside, -and- 2) I had a QC2 that sounded soooooo much more hifi than the QC15, and I had a QC1 whose sound was actually close to neutral.
