Christian It also shows how impotent the U.N. really is. No single member, or 2 members colluding, should be able to veto a resolution passed by an otherwise clear majority of the other members. Alex

Hi Guys, No offence here but I belong to the 'club' that says the biggest mistake the Syrian people made is not having any oil. IMHO if they were a significant oil producer I can't help thinking that they would not be feeling so abandoned at the moment. OTOH our involvement in Iraq and Lybia (and Afghanistan) have not really turned out very well for anyone as far as I can see, except perhaps for a few politically well connected American business men who will collect big contracts for 'rebuilding' the country that other American business men got paid handsomely for providing the wherewithall for decimating it in the first place - don't you just love big business . A cynic, Moi??? nahhh!!

I think the problem with Syria, and lots of other countries like the former Yugoslavia, USSR, Iraq and Lybia is that once the dictator or whatever opressive regime was in power has been removed the country splits along sectarian lines, usually based around religion and you end up with a civil war in which more death and suffering occurs than did under original regime.

This time the media for whatever reason they have pay attention to this situation in Syria but be aware that what is happening in Syria is just a snippet.
I can only hope the situation in Syria will stop as soon as possible...

I have also no recipe to stop the massacre.
An intervention from other countries could make things even worse. I'm also not a fan of most (US) interventions in the past, exactly for the reason mentioned a sentence before.
At the moment, we can only hope that it stops.
Sending weapons or ammunition to the free Syrian army could be a choice, but very likely it would end up in an Iraqi-like or Libyan-like situation.
Very likely, it will needs decades of time to heal the greatest wounds. If we look at the situation of Israel and the surrounding countries, then even decades have brought no real peace.
But still, I'm feeling with the victims at the moment. It's unbelievably cruel what is happening in Syria.

All great world wars were in need for such causes with conflicts and conflicts with causes > , i think this one is a great opportunity for everyone in the politics/industries who can make money out of this. The repression against people in north Africa is massive. It's a "de facto" civil war there for a year now and all the regimes try it to extinguish with brutal, deadly force. We receive only a small input on things they really happen. The masses in the UK are isolated of the awareness about politics outside the UK, they are kept in "high spirits" about mid-east conflicts they participate with a LOT of government propaganda. I have seen similar style only in the Soviet Union. We are not really aware, that these evil regime states were artificially created by our European "colonial"governments as a buffer zone for Europe. And now these fake States are very near on the total collapse. Like in Audio so in the politics YMMV..

Unfortunately, the situation isn't much better elsewhere:

Alex Alex, that is the only reason that they are still united - no requirement to get things done! If Russia and China had to go along, how long would it last?
