Just back from the helicopter club... it was pretty good but 1 hour was not long enough. Managed to shatter my "durablade 3D" blades when I was flying the Big Lama... blade clatter.... "durablade" my arse, they lasted 4 minutes... £10 for 4 minutes flying does not equate to "durable" where I come from!
It was great to really let the Solo V2 rip and actually quite funny... one bloke said to me "I don't mean to be rude but why not try controlling the helicopter and get it to do what you want it to do".... erm, I've been hovering the bloody things for almost a year the reason I was indoors in a large hall was to LET RIP... not "continue" hovering!
He seemed to have a bit of an attitude, he was introduced as the "guy who knows all there is to know about RC helicopters" and couldn't even fly his own helicopter I think he got a bit pissed off when the V2 started screaming around the hall... I didn't mean to steal his thunder (I really didn't) but, thinking about it, he must have felt a right dickhead watching the V2 buzz about the hall and to make out that what I was doing was "easy" was just sour grapes on his part
Not much on show there.... he had an MSRX (which he couldn't fly) another guy had an MCX, Shaun took along his Bravo and MCX2 and I took the ESKY Big Lama and a couple of Nine Eagles Solo V2 pros (one on slow balls, the other on fast)... the other guys were fling fixed wing Parkzone Vapor planes.
The Parkzone vapor planes are virtually silent in operation and almost indestructable... it was great watching them flying about the hall www.parkzone.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdId=PKZ3380 I'd buy one in a SECOND if it wasn't for the wind up here... they look like great fun.... maybe fine outdoors in Surrey but would be blown away up here in Caithness.
Yes, was an enjoyable hour... passed very quickly. That's the indoor club finished for the year so Shaun and I are going to hire my local village hall and start our own club.... a bit bigger than the girl guides hall (especially width and height) so will be ideal for the bigger stuff like the Honey Bee and Big Lama.
I was VERY impressed by the handling of the Solo V2 at speed, you can turn it on a sixpence... takes a bit of skill (even in a largish hall) to navigate it about the place at full throttle (not according to sour grapes man ) and much more satisfying than firing her around the living room at half throttle.
The Bravo is a dog... a very poor helicopter, almost impossible to do a right turn... nice "looking" but handles like an untrained dog on a leash.... fine as long as you want to turn left but VERY unpredictable on right turns.... the Solo V2 is a lot more responsive.
The MCX2 (Shaun's one / Mine has stopped working) felt positively pedestrian in the hall.... a piece of cake flying it through the hoops but as a "thrill a minute" it scores a very low "1" out of ten.... I remember when I first got mine, I thought it was a crazy machine!! I love it to bits but not sure if it's worth forking out for a new mainboard... no hurry, I'll have a think about it.
Nice to see (actually WITNESS) that there are "indeed" other middle aged men out there (real ones) who find this hobby enjoyable... far from being "sad", it's pretty "fun".... Just got to get a few girls involved (pole dancing types)... introduce some music into the flying experience, a few beers, some decent lighting, dry ice effect, laser beams and a nice big glitter ball to complete the scene..... not too sure about the "nude" flying evening (after seeing that lot ) but synchronised flying, whilst line dancing, is still on the cards... maybe a nude female audience?
