Super cool Mike. That'll be a great night out or are you making longer of it due to travelling distance?

Hi Mike, did you know that Status Quo are playing at the 02 arena in Glasgow on the 10th March with the original line up of Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan for a one off never to be repeated tour. www.statusquo.co.uk/tourdates.htmlTickets are a steal at about £40 I am going to see them at Sheffield City hall on 7th Dec (not original line up) but I am definitely thinking of getting some tickets to see the original line up playing on the 6th or 12th March at the 02 Apollo in Manchester. BTW the Russian EB valves arrived safely this morning . Again it may be a while before I get around to fitting them in, but knowing me I will be itching to hear them, so you never know. Thanks again Mike.

Nice one Mike - it is something to look forward to, it will take your mind off feeling sad Remember: Life is a Grindstone and whether it grinds a man down or polishes him up depends on the stuff he is made of. Your a strong man Mike so don't let life get you down. The Train maybe your best option? I don't know how far it is from Reay but I am guessing it is at least a 2/3 hour journey by car, although I am sure Steve will get you there no problem . I will have to see what my mates are doing before I get any tickets It's not my birthday until next week, so I cant' put them in yet - they are already wrapped up (women for you) When I get around to putting them in I will leave the amp switched on for a good 24 hours with a burn in disc just to get them warmed up a bit. Then the HIFI will really get some hammer - the speakers are far more revealing than my headphones.

Brilliant Chris! Glad you enjoyed it You are right, 50 years of rockin' and they have STILL got it! I must have seen them over 20 times through the years and they always deliver the goods! They've got a damned decent rig too and, yeah, that bass is just AWESOME...... the bit before whatever you want where the bass rattles the floor....... yowsa! I was never too keen on their winter tour as they sometimes got a bit "I can't be bothered singing the words ish" (especially Francis) but now they have shortened the tour and gone more along the "arena" approach (more people coming to them instead of them having to tour the entire country) things seem to have got better. You were extremely lucky getting a good support band, they are usually DIRE (and not in the Dire Straits type of Dire)..... the support "bands" in Inverness were absolute shite and the crowd were almost at the stage (excuse the pun) of getting up on the stage and beating the friggin' crap out of them.... utter shite! We stood there for five bastard hours enduring the local "talent" before Quo (finally) came on and they blew the place away! My mate was so taken aback that he literally "overheated", I thought he was having a stroke or something He hadn't been "frontline" at a gig before and it was just a bit too much for him May I recommend the DVD "Status Quo - Pictures" (live in montreux 2009) a concert basically showcasing all their years in the business and NON STOP rockin' for over two hours (I don't know how they manage it!)..... a DVD well worth watching. I used to love going to their summer outdoor gigs.... I always got pissed and they always seemed to do their "hardcore" set... loved it! The crowd pleasers are OK but you really need to be party to a hardcore set to hear them at their "rockin'" best..... I hope the original line up gig is hardcore Quo from start to finish, I'm lookin' forward to that one! Did you notice that Parfitt has had a haircut? When I first saw him on stage at Inverness I thought he was a stand in but, nope, seems he's visited the barbers after about 50 years Was also a bit strange when Francis had his ponytail chopped off, he just looked "wrong" Let me tell you a little story..... I'm 6 foot four and when I had my pic taken with Francis back in 2001 he pushed me down and said "get down you big f@cker" cause he wanted to look taller than me (that's why his hands are on my shoulders)...... I got my own back by pulling his ponytail and he went friggin' bonkers Luckily Rhino (the bassist) stepped in with "come on ladies, let's keep it civil" Damned good geezer Rhino and if you don't like standing behind tall people Chris make sure you don't get behind Rhino...... he's a tall bugger, and ugly too Pretty crap photo but that was me back in 2001 being pushed down (down deeper and down) by that little squirt with his ponytail What did you think of the SQ Chris (not the band, the sound quality)? looks like you were pretty close to the front? SQ is always best about dead centre between back and front but I always prefer the front cause I like my ears to ring for a few days after...... you should have grabbed that tall bloke's balls and told him to "get down" (and stay down) until the gig was over..... nothing worse than these tall bastards at the front, it should be banned On that subject, at the Inverness gig there was an annoying bitch there that wanted to slip in front of me claining it wasn't "fair" that she couldn't see...... I said to her "I've been standing here for five f@ckin' hours you bitch, if you want to get up front arrive earlier!"....... I then had her husband onto me telling me not to speak to his wife like that, I told him to go take a f@ckin' hike too, or I'd deck him They always seem to creep in right at the end and expect to get up front..... always midgets too! Then I had the "excuse me, you shouldn't be smoking" woman..... I told her to fekk off too..... at what point did smoking in a public park become illegal? I think some of these arsefekks only go to be pains in the butt...... Anyhoooooo....... I'm starting to veer here, just wanted to say I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday present Chris. I, personally, think the Quo should be entered into the rock and roll hall of fame..... 50 YEARS and broken more records than most bands have made! www.statusquo.co.uk/factsheet.htm

Yeh, I've had this plenty of times before where I think they deliberately Fekk up the sound system of the support act so that when the main attraction comes on they sound brilliant. My daughter was the same the first time she saw a live band down in Rock City in Nottingham - stood right next to a speaker that pumped out tons of bass, she was sick as a dog on the way home Thanks Mike I will look into that. When I was in Germany we used to synchronize about a dozen HIFI rigs all blasting out the old hardcore stuff out of the billet windows while we all got pissed on the lawn outside - Good days. Yeh lets hope they do all that hardcore stuff at the original line up for you, my mate is trying to get some tickets for Manchester in March, but a bloke at the Sheffield gig told us they are sold out, so I may miss them It took me a while to work out that it was Rick - he looked so strange with that haircut. We were about half way between front & back and the sound quality was stunning, it looks like I was nearer because I had my camera on 10x zoom using burst mode to freeze them in the frame. The tall guy was no problem I just moved slightly to the left into the aisle where everybody was dancing and singing and having a great time. Definitely rock and roll hall of fame for Quo and that is an impressive stat sheet you have linked there, it took me ages to scroll through it, but it was brilliant seeing some of the old photo's of the guys. Anyhoooo nice to see you are back firing on all four cylinders Mike, no woman is worth getting yourself into a state over.

Last night saw me in Manchester to see the original line up of Status Quo. We set off about 2.00pm and got there for about 4.30pm - twenty miles of roadwork's at 50mph didn't help, neither did the fog over the Pennines. The first stop was a local pub for some liquid refreshments and then we went and found somewhere to get a bite to eat. My mate Gary proudly displaying his Quo T shirt and a pint of local Boddingtons. The doors opened at 7.00pm and we got in the big long queue at about 7.15. I was expecting the queue to go down very slowly so I put on my thermal vest etc thinking I would be freezing(mistake). We were inside within 5 minutes. The support act was a band called Cambridge, a rock band and my first impression was the PA system sounded bloody awful and prayed that it would be better for Quo. Sorry photo a bit blurred. They went off at 8.00 and Quo didn't come on till 9.45. The sound was far better for Quo but it still sounded bad - I eventually put this down to where we were stood. We were directly underneath the upper balcony and we were getting reverberations from the side walls and upper ceiling. That's live music for you and I think we sometimes forget that when we listen to some recordings, we are more interested in the HIFI sound rather than the music. The Apollo slopes down quite noticeably and after about 30 minutes my back and feet were aching like mad, also with hundreds of head banging fans jumping up and down to the music I was now extremely hot (Thermals Arggh) even after taking my coat and hoodie off. They started with Juniors Wailin then Is There a Better Way, Little Lady/Most of the Time, Forty Five Hundred Times, Down Down followed by Roadhouse Blues, finally Bye Bye Johnny. I can't remember what hey did as an encore. I was a bit pissed off that they did not do any of my old favourites like Slow train - Gerundula - Softer ride - Mean Girl - A Year - I could go on, so not the best performance in my eyes but I have now seen the original Status Quo that I missed when I had the chance when I was in my teens. Mike I hope you have a better experience on Sunday Roll on Monday now and let's hope I can give a better review of Halestorm.

Chris, I sold my tickets a few weeks ago..... after a lot of deliberation I decided to give it a miss. I like Rhino a lot (and Andy Bown, Matt Letley) and don't like the way the Quo "management" have arranged this. Matt Letley is probably the best drummer Quo have had and he has resigned.... he says it's nothing to do with this reunion but it clearly is IMO, Quo are who they are now and these two guys should have remained in the past. I've no doubt you were less than impressed.... the "modern" Quo line up have been playing together for YEARS and are really tight..... these two guys have been brought off the scrapheap (and they look it!) for a few shows.... it was never going to be that good was it? I hope they get back to the "modern" lineup soon and dump these two back in the bin where they belong.

Wise move Mike, I couldn't understand half of what Alan Lancaster was singing and he definitely looked ready for the knackers yard. I totally agree, the modern line up was far superior and like you said Rhino is brilliant and a true entertainer. Although It wasn't the best night I still had a good time and I have now seen the original Quo twice, one modern and one old and not some tribute band. I won't go and see tribute bands
