i have a slow cooke crab cioppino planed for tommorow, my uncle from arkansas is out here and he does it best with the local fresh crab. recipe is 15 large dungenous crab boiled and cracked (for 4-8 big eating people) 8 lbs of small shrimp 8 cups white onions diced 10 tomatoes diced small about 2 and a half gallons of tomato sauce one gallon water 2 cups diced green onion big pot 4 bricks a propane burner.
cooked in the big beautiful pot (if this pot comes out of storage, you know only good things could be coming) which is a 3 foot tall by 24 inch round seasoned steel pot start by arranging your propane burner in a space in the middle of the bricks, light it, then place the pot onto the bricks, making sure your flame is about centered on the bottom of the pot. add both the water and the tomato sauce to the pot, stir thouroughly. let sit till it begins to boil, then add the white onion and the tomatoes, let boil for untill onion becomes clearish red , stiring religiously to prevent burning, then add the crab and one cup of green onion, let each crab cook for about 5 minutes, then take a good bit of the sauce mixture and pour it into a few large bowls over the crab. which is to be seperated (split body from appendages) and put into several such bowls, the rest of the sauce in the cooking pot is for the shrimp and anything left after cooking the shrimp can be bottled and frozen for the next crab cook. so add your shrimp and the final cup of green onion to the pot, cook shrimp till done (i have no idea of the time) then put shrimp and some sauce into a large salad bow, serve family style, into large bowls, with garlic bread and artichokes. loosen your belts, this is a big meal, take your time and enjoy your family. and make sure you have a place thats acceptable to nap after the feast, this is one of those meals that really takes it out of you

Now that sounds like a fantastic meal. There is no way I would cook anything like this as it is only me that likes seafood here.
But... maybe when my sons et al visit then something based on your excellent recipe could be on the cards.
Thanks,
Derek.

I'm sure it is fantastic BUT I absolutely cringe at the thought of eating a crustaceous spider type thing.... those things belong out of sight (on the seabed) IMO and not on a plate in front of me..... I once had a fresh "dressed crab" at a harbour in the East of Scotland (the old boy boiled them fresh).... I was trying to impress a girl who didn't like crab.... I was like "they are fresh from the sea, absolutely beautiful"..... You know, I nearly heaved up when he handed it over to me.... I was expecting "dressed" crab to look like a plate of "crab meat".... I wasn't expecting the actual BODY and legs of the crab with the "crab meat" sitting in the body..... I ate one mouthful and spat it out It tasted nice but something inside me said "that's a big spider type thing you're about to eat".... I have never got the "seafood" thing where people rave about things like oysters and mussels.... they taste like warm pish and have the consistency of a used durex.... Same with caviar... tastes like seawater..... do these people who rave about "seafood" actually LIKE it or is it more of a "look at me, I'm a real fishy person" type thing? Don't get me started on Octopus.... who the hell would want to "catch" one of those things, let alone EAT it RAW fish seems to be very popular too.... "Sushi"..... good god, why not just dive into the sea like a friggin' seagull and eat the damned fish ALIVE..... I must admit, I'm more of a "land" type eater
