Bloody idiots ! I use UHT milk, usually in a 2L carton, only because I don't use that much of it, and ordinary milk wouldn't last long enough before going off. SandyK

Shoot the idiots that are trying to destroy our culture......... does that sound like a sensible idea? Everybody I talk to has the same opinion "the world has gone mad" who are the few that are trying to destroy everything we hold sacred and imposing their warped ideas as "law"? don't smoke, don't drink milk, don't talk to children, don't communicate with others, don't congregate..... sit in front of your computer screen and "BUY"..... that's what "they" want.... a captive audience. Fckin' brainwashing on a massive scale. Online genecide with no recourse to the law unless you consider your typical "moderator" as impartial and open minded Sad times ahead I'm glad I've had the opportunity to experience true freedom

Shoot the idiots that are trying to destroy our culture......... does that sound like a sensible idea? I was thinking more of rope... ;D More global friendly than bullets.... what about drowning them in a pond? Sounds "green" to me. Or what about an "old school" birching? Whip them to death with a deciduous shrub bearing unisexual flowers? I'd, personally, like to smash their faces with my fist but they're a pretty invisible bunch aren't they? A list of names and addresses would make this thread "interesting" Who are these people who are hell bent on destroying our culture / heritage / way of life / community?

You'd rather have the old school flogging with deciduous shrub bearing unisexual flowers? Kinky! Give me a traditional flogging with a length of virgin oak anyday..... you haven't been flogged unless you're flogged with fresh oak.

MERTON If it lasts a month in the fridge AFTER opening, it must be really special. It sounds like you are already using UHT milk ! (UltraHighTemperature treated) SandyK

huh.... i just thought it was long lasting cus it was organic.
horizons website says nothing about this UHT.... and the milk tastes normal. but this wouldn't last outside the fridge.

IIRC the temperature of Pasteurisation was determined as what was necessary to kill off TB bacteria. In the 60s there was a dairy co in Batemans Bay that used to sell non-pasteurised milk from certified TB free herds. Their cream was to die for, needed a spoon to get it out and a knife to spread it. Possibly Mertons dairy co is similar.

fanboi Years ago near Camden, (?) which is just out of Sydney, there was a dairy like that. You could take the family, and watch the cows getting milked by machine. Their milkshakes were to die for ! SandyK

I always thought UHT stood for 'Unusual Horrible Taste' Bloody awful stuff. Yes Mike. The world has gone mad. I wonder if this is another great idea originating from Brussels?

Pasteurisation in milk is also used to kill Brucellosis - very unpleasant as a member of my family knows first hand!It is therefore a necessary evil but UHT is foul-almost as bad as Carnation Milk! One of the few good things to be said for the French is that they make excellent cheeses from un-pasteurised milk yet revert to type by tryng to stop everyone else in the EEC from making it.

I drink Cravendale milk (Semi Skimmed) almost exclusively now.
It's micro-filtered as well as pasturised, lasts for a good couple of weeks in the fridge (if not more) and tastes wonderful.

(in response to fault151s' picture) Yikes! I wouldn't mind trying to extract some milk from that source..... Ahem, anyway, has the nanny state considered that people, so bored by having their freedom constantly eroded by political correctness may finally snap and start killing eachother out of boredom on a grand scale, therefore negating the efforts of the power wielders to control them? HELLO!

WOW, 4 headphone jacks! where is the volume control? Gives a new meaning to the term "Head Amp"!
UHT milk has dead bacteria floating in it, doesn't sound like a good plan to me! I think the Soya industry is behind this scam! Just another attempt to kill the specialty milk market!

So it appears to be a story that is denied by everyone quoted in it?
"The government is not and will not be telling people what kind of milk to drink, people need to make their own decisions."
The National Farmers' Union (NFU) said any suggestion that people should switch to long-life or UHT (ultra heat treatment) milk was "ridiculous".
"We give the consumer what he or she wants [which is fresh milk]", he said.
What is inetresting is that "While consumption of UHT milk in the UK is just 8.4%, it is much more popular on the continent. In countries such as France, it accounts for 95% of all milk sales."
Sounds like a holmologation driven out of Europe to me! Some Eurocrat is selling the idea with savings to energy to offset the damage to the Milk market.
