There are a couple of DIYattempts on the web. Anybody ever made them, and what were the results like?

I built electrostatic speakers many years ago and wanted to make a HP once. Never did. Didn't like the idea of rather high voltages near my head and my speakers used to have a bearly noticeable hiss when you held your ears against it. You didn't anymore from a few centimeters distance but expected it to be a problem with HP's These speakers had a rather high sensitivity though (that's why the hiss was there), of around 90dB/W which is not needed for HP's.
Maybe in the future if I get bitten by the electrostatic bug again I might give it a go. I wasn't into headphones back then either.
The speakers did not have a stretched membrane as all other speakers have so this same topology could easily be used in a HP driver as well. This might solve the 'lack of bass' problem some electrostats suffer from.
