Does the google ad annoy? It doesn't bother me and keeps the forum free but I would be happy to go ad free.. what do you all think?

I think it's fine, it's static, unlike some of the annoying, flashing, animated, irritating banners and ads on many sites, and if it helps pay the bills, so much the better. The only thing I will say about Google ads is that if you really get going with the commercial aspect of Rock Grotto is that you have to watch what it's advertising. In the same way as Google categorises your site for search engines it picks ads to display on your site that are related to the content of your site. If you're selling stuff, it will on occasion advertise your competitors on your site, which is not exactly ideal.

I'm not really going "big scale" into business Xerxes just selling a few tweaks which will bring the best out of music lovers equipment at a very reasonable price.... maximum sound for your pound type of thing.
Competition is great, and healthy, and keeps people striving toward making things even better and even cheaper and that can only be good news for the music lover.
I have no control over the Google ads unless I go "ad free" Haven't got a clue what the "fart button" was, did anyone press it? (was a big red "fart button" in one of the Google ads yesterday saying "go on, press me, you know you want to")

Must have missed that. Awooga, awooga, tangent alert! You say you've tried around 800 amps and given all your poking around inside them I imagine that you would have some idea of what really works in terms of circuit latout and component selection. Have you ever designed and built your own amp from the ground up? You say "I'm not really going big scale", but how about selling your own amp kit? Dark Side Audio - just a thought.

800 amps??? where did I say that Jesus, that would be bordering on the "perverse" never mind the "insane" Probably "100" head amps passed by my way over the years (and some of them the same types ie: 10 x WNA etc. etc.) On the subject of designing my own you really can't reinvent the wheel and come up with something totally unique, every amp out there is a reworking of old classics, but I am working on something at the moment which I hope to offer as a DIY kit amp in the not too distant future. It's got to be "bullet proof", work first time and stay working, sound superb, easy enough for a 7 year old child to construct and be pitched at a price that even the stingiest of audiophile can afford.... only then will I bring her to market. Codename "Pink Head" by the way Mike.

Not sure where I got 800 from, I wonder if there even are that many, but 100 is still pretty impressive. "You can't reinvent the wheel" - Having learned even the tiny amount I have, since my recent interest in the DIY audio, I realise that circuits for a given function are, in many respects, variations on a theme. How does the whole copyright issue work with electronics? Could you in effect take the power supply section from one amp, the amplifier section from another and the output stage from yet another to make your "perfect" combination of the best bits of each. How "re-designed" does something have to be to avoid stepping on someone elses toes? Handicapped with the name "Pink Head", it's going to have to sound damn good to sell.

No bother at all. Got the balance about right. Content is more important and it rocks.
