For many years now my wife and I have made Aldi our main supermarket. They don't stock all we need so we have to make a second stop at a Sainsbury or Tesco (sorry non-uk readers!)... but most of what Aldi they offer is good... more recommendations another time... like their fresh chickens at £2.99.
Currently I am impressed with a variety of tomato on their shelves; Amoroso. Delicious. We all know that the best tomatoes are home-grown.. and that shop-bought toms are only any good in the summer - well try these Aldi Amoroso 'vine ripened' tomatoes. A little tast of summer garden in this prolonged cold UK winter.

Nothing wrong with Aldi, Derek, do a lot of shopping there myself. You soon learn which stuff suits, and what doesn't, just as you would in Asda, Tesco or Waitrose.
Plus they have there Sunday and Thursday specials, which are normally pretty good. I bought a 19" lcd TV/DVD for our conservatory a while back, for £150 odd. In the other shops and online, the same spec TV was £220-odd.

Picture quality is fabulous, sound is not fabulous. But I have solved that issue. The screen ratio is 16:9 too, not 16:10 which is usually the case.

Following on from the positive comments about Lidl in the "Another cheapie!" thread....
I am still shopping regularly at Aldi, as I have done for years. Current recommends are:
1. Their diet lemonade at 18p for 2 litres - a good sharp lemmony taste.
2. Shipstones bitter - mosty likely the John Smiths recipe in an own label can.
3. From the chiller (not frozen) a large steak and onion pie for £2.99 - couldn't make better myself.
4. Gruyere cheese pastry twists - one of those "I'll just have one more...." kind of snacks.
5. Extra virgin olive oil - 750ml? - can't remember the price but excellent oil and not expensive
6. 1.5kg fresh chicken £2.99 - they usually weigh in at 1.8 - 1.9 kg
7. Parmessan cheese.
I did see Aldi had a cheap noise-cancelling headphone but didn't take the plunge.
Derek
7. Mussels in butter and garlic sauce - £1.99

don't you have to get permission to advertise like this. what, you work there or something? Goodness me no! Have you seen how hard those people work in Aldi's? I could never keep up. For the retail trade their pay is very good I understand... and they earn it. I just love to share my appreciation of the company's products because it's so easy to base one's shopping choice on, perhaps, perceived class distinctions between one chain and another. There are quite a few of us shopping at Aldi who do not got out in slippers and jog pants you know However, I do draw the line at Netto. I think it's the armoured glass around the tills that puts me off. Still, it keeps the riff-raff out of M & S. ;D
