Hi All,
I just published a collection of essays on Dark Side of the Moon. The book is called "Speak to Me": The Legacy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, and it's available through amazon.com and bn.com (and their UK and European counterparts. Cost is about $30 US.
This collection includes many different essays on DSOM, and i also interviewed Mike Gordon of Phish about the tiime they performed DSOM in its entirety, and Sheila Whiteley interviewed Clare Torry about her contribution.
Anybody into DSOM and Floyd in general will probably really like this book. If you read it, I'd really appreciate feedback. I published a similar book on the Beatles' Revolver three years ago, and I'm finishing one up on Electric Ladyland in the next year.
Happy reading, and keep on rocking in the "free" world,

Nice one Russell! I actually prefer "not" listening to other people's opinions on Floyd and generally prefer to let the music do the talking but, if you're into reading, then this looks like a good read Cheers.

Thanks, Pink,
I know what you mean, and I had some doubts about this whole series I'm doing. I'm calling it "Seminal Statements of the Rock Era," and I'm writing about albums that were pivotal both for the group and for rock history. As I mentioned, next is Electric Ladyland, and then I'm doing one on Beggars Banquet.
I think the thing that saves these is that it's much more than one person's opinion, and we approach the albums from many different perspectives: cultural, musicological, performative, history, etc., etc. I saw Pink Floyd in 1973, 75, and 78 (including two complete performances of Dark Side), so I tried to let those experiences channel through me when I was writing my pieces. I was only tripping for two of the three shows, too.
The Revolver book won some award for being the best book published on rock, R&B, or soul for the year it came out. Some of the essays are academic, but most are just written by people who love the music.
By the way, I'll be in the market for one of those X-can V.3 upgrade kits.
I guess we now know which one's pink.
Set the controls for the heart of the sun,
