Is that:"NO!" there isn't another pair for sale and "I wouldn't accept £150" for them if there were. Or there is another pair but your going to have to up your offer. ?
The next comment was a bid derogatory and totally unecessary. You don't come over as a very nice person in your postings.

Believe me, Mike is extremely generous. £175 is a fantasitic price for those headphones which is why he asked about medication. I would not paypal him until you've agreed. Especially since you think he is not a nice person. Ian

I didn't mean to be derogatory, just my style.... as Ian says £175 is an extremely good price. Mike.

I have to say - these 'phones are stunning and at this price an exceptional bargain (I bought the 'first' set - really glad I did). I have Sennheiser 650s as well - but these are my current first choice. Great detail and clarity - and clear controlled bass!
..and Mike is a great guy to deal with...

They appear to meet the IEC specification that says they should be driven from a 120 ohm source impedance as provided by Solo and many other amplifiers. My pair sound far more tonally balanced when this requirement is met. Liam Hi Liam, I'm glad you like them They are a beautifully balanced pair of headphones and lovely looking into the bargain.... if you want to really tart them up you can get a pair of W-5000 leather pads from audiocubes.... they're not cheap though ($99) All the best, Mike.

SandyK I am using them (both the W-1000s and the 650s) with a Darkvoice 322 and occasionally with an X-Can v2 (just starting the modification process on that!). I hope my mail was clear - I love the 'phones (W-1000s) and prefer them to the Senn 650s (which are also very good) - they sound extremely clear and detailed on the Darkvoice and the tonal balance is fine. I hope my earlier post didn't imply problems/dissatisfaction in any way. Are you saying they will get even better with different amplification? javascript:add(%22%20:(%22) Liam

Liam The ATH W1000 will normally sound better when driven from a source impedance of 120 ohms as set out in the relevant IEC specification. The Solo and variants are designed to meet this specification. The SC HA with JLH , and the Class A HA from the DIY area of the forum also give better results from the W1000 with series 120ohm output resistors. When they are not correctly driven, the top end is exaggerated a little, which although it can make female voices sound like through more affordable Stax headphones, (more individuality/sexy sounding) there is usually excessive sibilance. However, with many valve amplifiers , the treble is often not as well maintained way past 20kHZ, as in a better than average Solid State amplifier, and this may help counteract this effect. SandyK

OK - you've convinced me! Tried them with Alison Krauss (who is pretty sibilent anyway...) "A Hundred Miles or More"... through the X-Cans V2 (fully modified, completed this afternoon!) and I can hear the exaggeration at the top end. It is less prominent on the Darkvoice - but possibly still there. I just wish I could hear anything approaching 20KHz these days (old ears and tinnitus - which disappears with headphones!). Still the best phones I've tried.... so far. Now my curiosity is raised as to what else can be revealed.... I can solder reasonably well - but have only digital experience in electronics (computers), I am an analogue newcomer - are the DIY amps relatively straightforward and do they have sufficient information to assist a novice builder. I would value your opinion about the best quality that can be achieved via this route - cost, whilst a consideration, is secondary. However, I have to say the modified X-Can v2 sounds superb (little pinky et al!). The boards were severely scorched around the transistors and diodes when I opened it up however (should I worry?). How many questions can I ask in a single email? Finally Mike - is the second pair still available? Liam

Welcome to the club!
I have seen a report that old ears only need to hear up to 5kHZ for the brain to phase lock loop, and give a very good dimensional image, provided the amplification is exemplary. An excellent choice for a novice would be the SIlicon Chip HA as described in the Jaycar and Tweaks threads. It is made much easier, as both the PSU kit and the main HA kit come complete with all onboard components, and even mounting hardware. You will still need to source locally the power supply components and case. With the later modifications, including the metal can LM4562 it will continue to deliver the goods, even with high resolution material from a very good DAC. I estimate there have now been >110 built, and I think just about everybody eventually got theirs working. There are always plenty of members available to either assist or ask questions. Perhaps even in your general area ? I will leave your questions about the V2 to Mike, who more than likely knows more about it than MF does !!! SandyK

However, I have to say the modified X-Can v2 sounds superb (little pinky et al!). The boards were severely scorched around the transistors and diodes when I opened it up however (should I worry?). Cheap PCB's and hot components are not a good mixture, especially if the V2 is left on "all the time" which MF recommend. I have seen plenty of these amps and the ones that have been left powered up 24/7 are full of bulging PSU caps and scorch marks around the transistors / diodes. My advice is to switch your amp on an hour or so before listening to it and switch OFF when not using it. There is nothing to worry about re: the scorch marks / nothing you can do about it.... just don't let the amp cook for 24/7/365 because "MF" say so ;D They want the things to pack in after a year so they can charge you an exorbitant rate to repair them...... You may also notice the transistors run a bit cooler now you have replaced the iffy PSU caps.... a good idea to fit new valves, say once a year too.... it keeps everything running in spec. As many as you want man I'm sorry, no, they have been sold. Liam [/quote]
