Maybe time for a holiday or maybe a fact................ Marantz CD17 into Behringer SRC2496 into SCHA sounds the same as - CD17 into SRC2496's head out - Marantz CD52MKllSE's head out sounds EXACTLY the same as CD52MKllSE into SCHA - CD52MKllSE into SRC2496 then SCHA sounds exactly the same...... X-CAN v2 direct from CD52MKllSE sounds EXACTLY the same...... I could go on and on....... Basically I have 4 headphone sockets to plug my headphones into with this configuration (SRC2496 headout, Marantz CD52 headout, X-Can v2 and SCHA) CD17 does not have a dedicated headout............ They all sound the bloody same! I have been listening long enough to know what "different" means but I have never before tried such a simple test..... Basically, without cramping my fingers typing, the CD players dedicated headphone out sounds identical to the SCHA output... the Behringer SRC2496's dedicated head out sounds the same as the CD17KI through SCHA....... Basically it all sounds the friggin' same! I'm going to need a couple of weeks to come to terms with this.... can it really be that after all the time I've spent farting about with equipment that it all sounds the same? I hope not headphones I've been listening to for this test are HD-600........ God, I need an aspirin

No Mike, you need a wax job. Place a house brick either side of the crown jewels and clap. All the wax will pop out of your ears ! Seriously, have you had your BP checked recently ? You also mention problems elsewhere. Time for a good health checkup ? BTW, did Ron Lacey's book help ? You seem to have been pretty stressed out lately. Alex

^^ yep! My Xcan and Ming Da are still in boxes, somewhere SCHA has been decommissioned for mods. I plugged my cans into a source component, Holy #@it! It was awful. Listening session scrapped, where's that piggin' box....

I think it was just one of those nights last night Alex where it all sounds the same whatever you plug the headphones into.... I'm not particularly stressed nor do I have high blood pressure and, as far as I'm aware, my hearing is pretty much spot on..... as I say, it was probbably one of those nights ;D

It must have been one of those nights mate. Just remember, you can easily pick out the differences between different op amps. Try some different headphones & repeat the experiment again. It was bought to my attention recently that the HD580/600/650 series make everything sound pretty decent anyway.

Sorry, but were you listen to music or analyzing it? I'm asking this because IMO there's a big difference in simply listening to the music and "following the tune" and examining every little aspect - how much bass? how liquid the midrange? how grain-free the highs? IMHO, only by simplifying our mental activity as much as possible can we allow yourselves to be truly receptive to what our senses tell us - kind of Zen approach to sound... Just a thougth...

those pills you take can sometimes destroy your hearing. also, try some dt770... they will not sound the same.

In fact, with the DT's things won't even sound like music....er.. or else, it could be you have a spoken narrative on CD.

I can detect differences in opamps / different amps.... that guy was probably right, I wasn't Listening to the electronics, I was listening to the music and the HD-600 don't really do a warts and all job of presenting it do they? I'll try the same test again when I get home but this time will use W-1000, SR-225 and K-701 and actually listen to the electronics this time
