Hi All,
Well I've been reading in depth all of the popular headphone forums and i gotta say this one seems to be the most friendly one...knowledgeable people but no one is up their own arse.
I'm afraid its the old "what amp should i buy for my K 701s" question.
Believe me i have read every thread going on the www and its only confused me more. I decide on one i.e the heed canamp but then it gets critisied to hell on another thread.
Its been swings and round-a-bouts and i am getting grey fast!
Basically i listen to all types of music...PC based via DAC.
Budget is £250 but if needs be can flex slightly.
I like the sound of tubes in normal hifi gear but not many out there in my budget will drive my k701s to full potential especially in the lows. In SS i was looking at the SHANLING PH100?
Now this topic always seems to fade out and changes direction without ever coming to a conclusion...i'm praying for an answer...finding a headphone amp is seriously the hardest thing EVER!
Thanks in advance,
Dan.

That IS the big question! I fear you may receive as many different responses as people you ask.
I have 3 very different 'phone amps but could not tell you which one I ALWAYS prefer with the 701.
May I suggest 2 ways to progress(or a mixture of the 2)
1) give as detailed as possible idea of what sonic result you are looking for.
2) There are folks here, Mrarroyo springs instantly to mind, that have vast experience listening to many amps and 'phones and combinations thereof. This is the sort of person that could give you a knowledgable response, certainly one worth putting your money on.

Thanks cjarchez,
Well like everyone else i want an amp with a good bottom end with plenty of drive behind it...not a muddy bass.
In terms of overall sound a neutral amp is fine but a warm sounding amp may help for a slightly more enjoyable listen with the K701s.
Possibilities are:
Little dot mkIII - as mentioned earlier a lot of mixed view...some like it with these cans, others say it just hasn't got the power to drive the 701s.
SHANLING PH100 - Majority of comments seem positive only there are not many people with them.
Darkvoice 336se - Has the drive but SQ is apparently not as good as little dot with standard tubes...don't mind rolling in the future but I'd like something i can enjoy for a while first without rushing to mod.
Heed Canamp - Gone off this too many mixed comments...even people who rave it seem to sell on very quickly...plus seems over priced considering components used, currently £263.93.
So any other suggestions or input to help me finally crack open my wallet and put this thing to bed?

...or possibly a S/H Gilmore Lite? I seem to keep missing out on these when they come up for sale thou
