Hello first post on this 'wonderful' forum . I need expert guidance regarding my darkvoice 336i. I have been using this amp with senheiser 595's (soon to be upgraded) for couple of months and I am not overwealmed with the sound. A low level buzzing noise, sounds tinny and bass crakles. Obviously the headphones dont help, but when I upgrade them to some Beyerdynamic DT 770's, by reccomendation for listening to drum n bass, I want to unleash amps full potential -What mods need to be done to improve the amp? -What tubes are best for listening to drum n bass/dance music? I have searched everywhere and cannot find a guide or parts to use etc. Thankyou

I have been using this amp with senheiser 595's (soon to be upgraded) for couple of months and I am not overwealmed with the sound. Hi Dean, welcome to the forum Bass crackles? In what way? can you describe this better? Fit higher capacitance output caps, the present 33ohm is pretty much useless with low impedance 'phones as the caps roll the bass off a bit. Other things you can do? Fit cathode bypass caps, 100uF is the preferred value of choice amongst 336i tweakers. Haven't got a clue as I don't listen to drum and bass as such..... I prefer a bit of piano and singing along with my drum and bass ;D You could start here: rockgrotto.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=b&action=display&thread=2734and here...... rockgrotto.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=b&action=display&thread=936Hope this helps, Mike.

thanks for reply bud, great info there! Big problem today, I think my 336i is nakered My setup; Auzentech Prelude Soundcard > Optical connected to 5.1 resierver > headphone out into 336i Amp switches on, tubes glow and sound comes through, but adjusting volume on the amp does nothing. The sound is very low, like the amp is doing nothing. I removed the tubes and its exactley the same as with them in. Ive checked for lose solder joints and could not find anything, is this the tubes that are nakered? Any help would be much appreaciated

Have you got a spare set of tubes to try in it? Pretty silly question really as if you did you would probably have tried them.
How old is the amp and is this covered under warranty? If so probably best if you send it back and get them to rectify the problem.

Headphone out, from receiver into the headphone amp?
As in, the headphone jack?
No surprise then that you have no volume.... unless the amp is turned right up.
If you keep it that way, then you're listening to the prelude, out to the receiver, dac in receiver out to the headphone amp.
Chances are you'll get a much better sound running analogue from the prelude directly to the darkvoice - and you'll get some volume.
