Help, I need some closed back cans that have a huge amount of noise isolation. The problem is that whilst listening to music in bed i keep on waking up my wife! and she complains! I cannot get on with in-ear type phones so i am after a closed back can that my wife cannot hear. I have a pair of W1000's at the moment but they can so easily be heard by others. Looking at about £90-150 though lower would be good! Any ideas welcomed. Andy

A good "all 'rounder" that has good performance (maybe just a tad bass heavy ),has great isolation having been designed as a recording monitor, that does not get TOO hot over time and that has and always had a sane price is the Sony MDR-V6/MDR-7506. Check the pro audio gear dealers for the best prices

Another possible option and again another Sony...the MDR V700DJ. I use a set of these for mixing and for the money (around £70) they are hard to beat. Designed for use by DJ's in a loud club environment = very good isolation. Good sound too with a Frequency response of 5 - 30,000Hz. The cable is single entry and connects to the left side of the phones so you shouldn't strangle yourself if you fall asleep with them on www.sony.co.uk/product/hdh-dj---studio-monitoring/mdr-v700dj/tab/overview#tab

Thanks for the quick replys! I have found the DT770 80ohm version for £108 in the uk so only just under double the US price but there you go!
Not so keen on the look on the sonys and having had a pair of DT100's and DT150's before i know they tend to be built to survive.
Also having a bass heavy transducer would be good as it will be used at quite low volumes so i should still get some bass! If it is a bit much i can tweek the eq on my mp3 player.
Just for information I am using a Creative Zen Vision M mp3 player with a very modified BT928 amp. downstairs i have a rega apollo with a solo amp.

Oh right, well there you go, it is quite an old design, so maybe they have cut the price. I may get a pair then! I can see that you rather like these DT770's from some of your other posts.

yeah. just don't pair them with a bass or highs heavy amplifier. either one will cause issues.

Audio Technica ATH-A900
I managed to find them at £160 but average around £200 mark.
Using these via a roksan kandy cd player and kumisa II headphone amp the bass is perfect. Much better then my Senn HD580's
