Hi guys. Long time no speak!!
I am using my computer as source and right now I have AKG K 701 running on Musical Fidelity X-Can V8 powered by a Little Pinkie V3i.
It sounds OK, but separation is still better on solidstate. Tubes don't work to well on what I listen to. I am not that much of a jazz fan. The external PSU I don't like too much either.
So I wonderd, can anyone recommend me a good solid state amp for the AKG K 701 which also comes with a GOOD quality USB DAC? It must also preferbly have a integrated powersupply.
The PS Audio Headphone Amp comes to mind, but the USB DAC is cheapish, and also the thing is 'huge'. Takes up so much desktop real-estate. Is that thing still the 'best' to get?
Thanks in advance.
Kris

Search is over... I am getting this. YULONG DAH1 Mark(2008 model) DAC. Even has digital volume control. My god, those chinese clone's are immensly cheap. It's supposed to be clone of Lehman Linear. Can one expect the sound to be just as good as the Lehmann ? IS the chinese clones of that high quality? Anyone know if that DAC is good, even though its non-over sampling? Too bad it's so ugly looking, but well.... I will sell my x-can v8 + littlie pinkie v3i 220v version. any toughts btw? K (probably elvis will never sound as good as on the x-can v8, but I use the DAC, and the DAC sucks so immensly in that MF amp. this must be better.)

But what about the Lehmann Linear vs this?
It's based on HEF188, which people say is clone of Lehmann. Is Clone just as good as the real thing, same components?
How can the chinese guys make this thing for $300, when the same thing in 'branded' versions would cost 5 times the price?
Is the chinese stuff just as good, even though it is 'pirated', isn that what this thing is??
It really has everything one could want....

So tell me Insomniac. How is this amp / dac compared to other things you have tried, like Heed, the real Lehmann, Solo, X-can ??(though thatone is tube). Is it really as good as the specs? Is there a chinese clone of Heed around? Or something else good? I want to know.. Look for an used O1 Amp/Dac or its newer version the Octavart Amp/Dac. Amazing little box, if I did not like it as much as I do I would sell it but it is way to sweet.

By the way, does any of you guys know of any killer small but excellent 'chinese' USB dac's? I might get that one instead and keep the x-can v8. The pico is perfect size, but its not cheap, and it has all this extra which i don't need.
Why on earth can't MF make a proper DAC in that v8.
Btw, are there any chinese clones of things like Mark Levinson, NAD, Marantz, etc???

I have no desire to post on "stolen" designs (other than that I am greatful that my kids are not into this). Or the illusion that a Mark Levinson rip off would make me feel good because of the technology.
There is enough EXCELLENT, inexpensive stuff out there (even for the 701s!) where the designer gets credit AND maybe even a little money.
Let the chinese pay their dues and come up with a kick ass original.
I am enjoying an M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB DAC driving (through a transformer) a "cheapo" Szekeres Mosfet buffer driving my 701s. This thing ROCKS-just like Rick said it would.

It is one thing to clone a product for your own personal use, but a completely different thing to encourage theft of another designer's work, just to save some money. You most often end up with an inferior product anyway. Speaking of theft, I pinched the attached drawing from DiyAudio. I don't think the original poster would mind, though. SandyK

What if Compaq and friends had never cloned the IBM PC? [/quote] That's funny remember this?
