Anyone heard this yet, I have the fully pinkie modded V3 and this is so good I wonder if the V8 is much better. I front this with Michell Orbe SME V and M.F NU Vista CD player, and Im well satisfied really.

I wouldn't take this review too seriously -- the guy "reviewing" posted this all over the web before realizing that he had a defective unit, replacing it, and posting his new and far more positive thoughts in a few threads. I happen to think that his original threads were pretty irresponsible and I also think that he tends toward the alarmist and the absolute in his posts -- he's got another "BEWARE!!!" thread about the (mostly imagined) dangers of owning the Rega Saturn, also posted everywhere he could think of, despite his not actually owning one. The v8 looks too similar to the v3 to pique much interest in me but others have reported that it's a good-sounding amp with excellent driving ability and contains a serviceable DAC to boot. Has anyone here heard it? best, s EDIT: Apologies, mods, if the above post is seen as too personal. I'll happily delete it.

Merton. if your avatar is actually a picture of you, it doesn't match with the last post. ;-)
Bugger, it's my mind again. It's saying things.

iancraig10 The avatar is misleading isn't it ? He is actually half your age. If you want to buy any original paintings, he is the guy to ask, though.

Information on the performance of this amp seems to be really scarce! Even Headfi doesnt seem to have much. Can anybody shed some light as to how this compares in SQ against the V1, V2 or V3?

Its better with low impedance phones (D5000s) and way worse with high impedance phones (Senns).

Stereophile September has just arrived with me and Sam Tellig seems very pleased with it. "Right from the get-go, with the standard wall wart power supply, it was obvious to me that the X-Can V8 is a great advance over the V3. Resolution through the AKGs (701) was extraordinary. I could hear every detail of a recording, whether I was meant to or not, including edits and urban traffic noise (there is no traffic noise at our home). The midrange and high frequencies were exquisite. The AKG's midrange and treble were superb: smooth and sweet, and combined with utter clarity......driven by the MF, the AKG's bass had such depth, fullness and authority that I could scarcely believe I was listening through headphones...".
