As someone rather new to the wonders of Headphones and the like, I was wondering what your perfect equipment combination would be (source, amp, phones)? Partly out of a general interest but also to give me some ideas of where to go equipment wise from my cheep CD player and amp. Trying to find Hi-Fi shops that sell headphones and amps is rather difficult and this could be a good way of sharing some of the wealth of knowledge you guys defiantly have. So what makes you smile?

I think it may be time for an amps/cans WIKI around this joint if anyone has the time to get 'er started ;D For my taste there are some systems that just synergize well and for me those are : Domestic : The old ASL MG-Head (when you got a working one ) tubed or Headroom MAX solid state amp and the Senn HD-600,Pure Class-A in the 1-2 watt range and Grados from the SR-125 up with any good source Poartable Duty : An older Panasonic CDP "ampless" with either KOSS Portapros or Grados from the SR-125 down Dual duty : The same CDP isolated (three point "cones up" footing on a "squishy feet" maple board) and "bagged" (sandbag/shot bag on top not heavy enough to compress the lid) on to a "desktop interface" box consisting of an A/B input selector then through a 1-2 step up transformer with a volume control/voltage follower on the secondary side then on to the "domestic" setup above. the reason for the A/B select is so you can use the system on the computer desk with the computer as source or use the PCDP which can be simply unplugged, bagged up with a set of cans and a few CDs and out the door you go

At the end of the day there are many different combinations that would bring an smile to your face. The hard part for me is to truly appreciate the gear I have and stop looking for the magic bullet, heck I may already own it. So true...we can find many combinations that bring a smile to our faces that sound just a little different from each other. I am attempting to be satisfied with the smile that I have.

A perfect combination does not exist, there's always something better around the corner. Having said that, I'm currently enjoying my Green Solo / AKG K501 Equinox combo.

I have settled down to Singlepower tube amp and Grado headphones. I can always change the tubes if I look for different sound.

Nothing in life is perfect but for the record my setup consists of the following.
Little Dot MKV Dual Mono Solid State Headphone Amplifier. KECES DA-151 USB DAC. Chord Crimson interconnect cable. Sony MDR-SA 5000 Headphones.
That little lot cost me a pretty penny but it sounds great. I use my PC as my source and play mainly FLAC files.
