I have been hanging around the forum now for a few months and I have been carried along by the the enthusiasm for head phones and have been convinced that this is something I wish to pursue. So I have actively sought out the overtime on offer with the plan to get myself a green solo and as yet to be decided replacement for my Sennheiser 435 magazine subscription freebie headphones.
When trying to decide about head phones I have listened to some Senn 600/650's at a Hifi show (on the end of solos) been intrigued by Mister Pinks AT W1000 thread... however I have noticed that nobody seems to talk about beyerdynamics.
I see mention of Grado's, Senns, AT's and Denons but nothing about Beyerdynamics... are they bad? Do the company experiment on Bunnies?

I had some old DT990's & they weren't bad but I thought the Senn 600/650's were better with my equipment.

I had a 2005 DT990 in 250 ohms, at first I thought it was much better that the HD600 and sold the HD600. As time went by I was disillusion w/ the highs and sold the DT990. I do want to listen to a DT880, many seem to like it.
The other model I have listened too was a Headphile modded DT770. Way to much bass for me, although beautiful to look at.

before I bought my AKG-701s, I compared them to the Beyer 880 and 990. The 990 was not even close on my head and I needed 2 hours to decide between the 880s and the 701s. They were both plugged into a UREI mixing board with some high end studio headphone amp module. The DT770 is one of the standard studio phones. My second son uses them exclusively for location recordings. They seem to let him know where the microphones have to go for optimal results. I have not heard one bad recording yet! I do not get along with these cans AT ALL! I am not a geometry (imaging/soundstage) freak. The instruments just have to sound real, natural. The AKGs had a slight edge for my ears.

I own a pair of DT-770 which I like very much. The headband is not very comfortable after wearing them for an hour or more but can be adjusted so that it touches your head in a different place! The bass is excellent (a common trait for closed headphones) and very little noise leaks out of the headphones (or gets in); useful if you live in a noisy environment (or do not want to disturb others). Too big to wear on the train whilst listening to your iPod though! I used mine with the Creek OBH-21 SE headphone amp; a combination that worked well for me. There is a review here: www.headphone.com/products/headphones/sealed-and-noise-canceling/beyerdynamic-dt-770.phpHope this helps.

There used to be some older, less expensive Beyer's that pbirkett used to recommend. Was it the DT 931's?
