Similar in appearance to the Audio Technica woodies and spookily similar model numbers to the Audio Technica range.... could these be badge engineered Audio Technica 'phones maybe?
By the way, what is it with these closed backed wood rich designs.... not a patch on open 'phones..... must be a Japanese thing all this wood.

They are not very deep, not as HD650 or 595. What do you mean? They are extremely valuable. Bought mine for 202 Euro The D5000 is supposed to sound extremely much alike and not to be so good value though.

The d2000 sounds exactly the same as the 5000, sans luxury wood brag rights!

I do own the D2000s for a few months now. They are overall in the same ballpark as the european contenders HD650 K701 DT880 with different strengths and weaknesses naturally. Strong points are being closed without obviously sounding like closed cans, a very attractive bass, a luxurious look and feel, great comfort and a relatively even frequency response. A bit too much bass and a tiny bit too much treble to call them neutral, but to me it's not distracting. The tonal balance is quite good for listening at relatively low volume (a tiny bit of built-in Fletcher-Manson loudness curve correction for listening levels of less than 90 dB) and dolby headphones applications. Weak ponts are the crappy cable (this tangly crap really gets on my nerves) and a lack of detail/resolution.As a frame of reference: They do provide (in a different way) about as much detail as the Senn HD6X0 series, and that's not much by my terms. Even the affordable european contenders K701 and DT880 or modded AKG K340s do provide significantly more, and cans that really excel in the detail department like my Staxes or dynamic cans like the SA5Ks or W5000s all easily blow them out of the water. So if you are looking for detail monsters look elsewhere. The isolation is soso. Certainly enough to avoid annoying your spouse at reasonable listening levels (and as aforementioned they do sound good at 75-80 dBs), but they won't block outside noises like good IEMs. With music at low volume you'd still hear a phone or bell ring. You are not totally isolated, and they are surely not suitable for the plane near the engines or in a really loud subway. They do isolate better than the W5000s or CD3000s, but less than IEMs with proper seal.Somewhere in between.
