If Rick is still around I suppose he would just love this one...
I am Sennheiseroholic for about a decade now, have bought X-Can V2 to match my "precious" HD 600 also long time ago, been happy with it etc, etc...
Last couple of months this site and annoying hum in left V2 channel enhanced and altered my listening experience. Bought a soldering iron and went for the modifications one by one: diodes without bypass caps (clarity), that brown 470nF thing for light blue plastic equivalent (something very subtle and better - possible placebo), ferrite beads instead of input caps (new highs and brightness), bulky 1000µF non polar CapXons as outputs (lower end went looower), 4x100µF FMs on lower board (no apparent effect)... Oh, yes... also rolled a couple of ECC88 versions of dubious origin with somewhat mixed feelings (noise went away, still feel stock 6922s had richer sound).
Still waiting for ten 1500µF FMs for the definite PSU stab, but I can tell already that current modifications (especially big output non polars) were meant for my "iPod dedicated" Grado SR-80... I mean, new V2 made me really love them and sometimes for certain pieces even prefer them (Apage Satanas!) over the HD 600...
So, since we have here many orthodox Grado worshipers - what would be the suggested next Grado step? I just keep wondering about what SR-125-225-325i can do. I fear though that I am not prepared for RS-1-2 (too expensive).
